I was over at Democratic Underground for a while in the gun section and could just feel my IQ dropping. They actually had some good threads started untill some retard named iverglas came along and derailed them. There is a thread about corneredcat.com that had many people seeing the light I think and then iverglas came along and accused the owner of the site of being a racist pig. It was scary how fast the threads drift off topic over there. And the mods like to ban anyone that speaks out against her. Anyway, it made me realize how good we have it here at THR and made me appreciate some of the rules we have and how good our mods are.

I've read her posts before on DU. She unfortunately just goes on and on flaming anybody who is pro-gun and uses the same tired and useless arguments over and over. It's very unfortunate that she refuses to listen to any reason or have a rational and civil conversation.

Despite that there are some good, well-reasoned arguments on DU making it interesting to read and better to understand where some of them are coming from. Typically those aren't in the gun section, but they can be found elsewhere on the site.

I love reading Iverglas' posts, I read DU to see what the antis are up to. Iverglas appears to be from Canada and feels the need to intrude upon US politics.
 
There is actually a lot of pro-gun people there but they are confused, they blame the Bradys on Republicans and plan on voting for Obama
 
Blame the Republicans for what? If it's gun control, I don't quite understand. Though if it's a number of other issues, I might just agree.

While I'm no George Bush fan, he and the Republicans in Congress confirmed conservative Supreme Court justices. The fact that the Heller case made it to the Supreme Court is a small victory in itself. This is the first 2nd Amendment case in how many years?

The Democrats, really, REALLY want the white house for those next Supreme Court seats.

I'm not sure why. The next 3 to likely leave are already flaming liberals. They will just get to replace them with other flaming liberals.

Net is I suspect that it will be a while still before there will be the chance to truly change the makeup of the court.

Alito, Scalia, Roberts and Thomas are not going anywhere.
 
Well, it is typical of what I call "student center debate society" tactics... The anti-gun folks tend to freak out in the presence of organized logic, so they HAVE to come up with something to change the topic, and change it fast, lest someone be persuaded.

Hence, they tend to accuse folks of stuff like racism, sexism, etc...
 
Man, that iverglas jumps into any thread and states unequivocally that because the founding fathers were slave-owners and didn't give women the vote, then the 2nd amendment is obsolete. She brooks no dissent. I wonder if her theory invalidates the 1st Amendment then too? Oh hell, just get rid of the whole constitution, and we'll all live in the U.S. of iverglas...:rolleyes::banghead:

Iverglas really gets on my nerves. Iverglas is a man but I swear they way he writes for some reason sounds like a liberal elitist woman. Maybe cause he is of the left and a Canadian that thinks all things in the USA suck. That is one reason he fits in real well at DU. They think the same thing. Makes them feel good when citizens of the world hate this country as much as they do. I really was surpised when he said he was a he. Being a woman myself I just naturally somehow always thought he was a she. Sounds odd I know.:eek:

THR tends to not tolerate knocking or disparaging other boards as it's not really taking the "High Road".

But it's always refreshing to visit other worlds to come back home and find out how good you do (or don't in some cases) have it.

DU is a refreshing look at... another world of thought in regards to firearm ownership, politics and moderation.

I have tried, and I mean REALLY tried to read the stuff at DU, but about 10 minutes of the Full Spin Left is all I can take before I'm Hurlin' . . . .
 
iverglas doesn't seem to know that gun control was dreamed up in response to free blacks owning guns. It is itself quite racist. If anyone posts against her over there, use this argument on her.
 
Honestly, you don't realize how great The High Road is until you try out some other web site forums.

I have been to two others to give it a try (won't mention names) and I found the following:

- lack of regulation
- flame wars start at the drop of a hat
- topics drift aimlessly
- low intelligence or limited experiences of members, yet they had a lot of strong opinions (a bad combination)
- the same old tired topics come up over and over :rolleyes:


And another forum, that had potential, simply didn't have the volume and traffic THR has. You post something, and 2 weeks later there is no response... or just the same people posting.


So, yes I agree with you, you don't realize how good THR is until you venture out and experience some of the lesser forums!

Been over there a few times and yes I thought Iverglas was a woman myself. Not a whole lot of thinking going on, plenty of "feeling" but the higher order thinking skills just seem to get left at the door. I can usually only handle about a half hour over there before I start to get the heebie geebies.
