Looking to put together a 10/22 for my Appleseed shoot in April. I intend on putting sling mounts on it, and Tech Sights for greater accuracy. A stainless barrel would be nice too. Which model would suit these purposes?

If you plan to mod it, a plain Jane carbine is a good option. It has the front sight dovetail, is inexpensive, and any or all parts can be replaced with aftermarket items as you decide what you want to keep or upgrade. The bull barrel models don't have front sights as far as I am aware, unless you get an aftermarket barrel. The standard sporter barrel isn't stainless.

There is always the 10/22-T. I think this rifle is a great value at around 450-475 for a new one. Also you can take a stock carbine and with a little craftsmanship you can fit a Clerke barrel or a Green Mountain or one of those fancy dancy carbon fiber ones.

"Any benefit to the bull barrel vs. the regular one?"

Simply said, Yes.

The science behind it to my understanding is that there is less vibration with the bull barrel due to its mass so you get a cleaner more accurate shot.

The not so scientific reason behind it, it looks cool.

I have several, of which they are all tricked out with stocks, receiver work and barrels. If I was going to start out with one now, I would probably get the stainless in synthetic stock. Its light and maintenance free.;)

I like the 16" barrel ones. Just saw one at my local Wally World for $193.00 and that's a great price, would have bought it if I hadn't just received my Spikes Dedicated .22LR M4.
