I'm thinking of putting together a "Liberty Training Rifle" for range and possible Appleseed use. I'll most likely use the Ruger 10/22 platform and add Tech Sights. I like Hogue stocks, but some have reported lots of flex in the material when used with a shooting sling. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, are the Hogue nylon stocks any better than the overmolded rubber ones? Any suggestions on the best route to take? Thanks!

If you go with the Hogue with the full length bedding block they should be as stiff as anything. The others without the block are not that good. Personally I can't stand either version. I don't want a 3+ lb stock on my hunting rifles, but on a target rifle the added weight isn't a disadvantage. And while I don't like them, I have used them and they do work.

My Remington 700 sps tac. rifle in 308 came with a Hogue over mold and the only thing good I can say about it is that it did absorb a lot of the recoil ...It only took light finger pressure on the forearm to have it touching the barrel...Some guys have bedded carbon arrow shafts in the forearm but I do not know how much it helps as I just replaced the Hogue with a Bell and Carlson ...another thing I did not like was how dirt would stick to it like a magnet and was hard to clean off.....

I have a hogue overmolded and I can push the forened into contact with the barrel with about 8lbs of thumb pressure.

The best stock for a LTR is, in my opinion, just the factory wood stock. Drill it for sling studs and call it good. I also always remove the barrel band on mine if it has one.
