I have two 22 lr target pistols but want to downsize.
Which gun would you keep and why??

Hi-Standard Model H-D Military Bull barrel 22LR 1946-1947 build worn bluing and been shot a lot.

Ruger Mark II Target 22 LR Bull barrel 1985 vintage looks new, probably 1000 rounds through it.

Tough question, there. I like the Ruger a lot and shoot mine in Bullseye matches but I'd keep the High Standard. It's a genuine classic; will only escalate in value; will be harder and harder to find-and you'll be able to get the Ruger all day long.

The High Standard is better made and worth more if you sold it than the Ruger. If you want a gun in current production which is still serviced by the factory and easier to get spare parts and extra mags for, then keep the Ruger. But that the High Standard is a classic.

I sold my Ruger and kept my Colt Woodsman, High Standard Model B and Walther Jagerpistole.

I would probably keep the Ruger, because you will not live long enough to wear it out or break it.

The HD is a tough old bird, but parts & good mags are getting scarce.

Yep, if I absolutely had to sell one, I'd keep the HS.

But honestly, I wouldn't sell either of them.

If you shoot or just collect?

Ruger to shoot, HS to collect.
I doubt the well worn HS will appreciate much. Lots of them made and collectors like minty guns. But its a interesting thing to have.

with the cost of ammo I'm keeping the 22's and starting with the ones that need the high priced ammo......

CZ Kadet. Not as accurate as a Ruger, but great fun to shoot.

Sorry. Misread the post.

How embarrasking.

That would be a real easy choice for me. I'd keep the HS! I'm sure it is just as accurate today as the day it left the factory. That, incidentally, was my first pistol. Bought it with my own money in 1948. So I am a little prejudiced.

I'd keep the Ruger Mark II. Just because there's a lot of shooting left in it.

PS Personally, if it were me, I wouldn't sell either. In six months, you'll regret it.

Ruger 22/45 no doubt, very reliable, fun and accurate at the range. I can shoot a couple hundred rounds for what, 10 bucks!:)

I doubt that selling either one would result in enough money to matter.

I'd keep both.

I agree with another post, you'll regret selling either one in 6 months, probably less.

This mostly because it looks like new and a 1000 rounds thur it is makes it almost new as far as Mark IIs are concerned.

I'd keep both, too. My favorite .22 pistol is a Colt Woodsman, made in 1938, and I shoot it quite a bit. Runner up is a Colt Officer's Model Target revolver. I shoot it a lot, too.

Keep'em both. You can't get enough to pay that much of the bills selling either one of them. I have a Colt second generation Woodsman (circa early "50s) and enjoy shooting it much more then the ruger.

Was in the same situation a little while ago. Had a Ruger Mark II Target I had bought in 1989? Bought a Colt Woodsman this past summer. Don't blast me but just didn't have a connection with that Ruger (and the story stupidly started from selling a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag when I got married in 1988 and couldn't afford the ammo to buy the Mark II new). Traded away the Ruger Mark II, after having it for 20 years. It was a fine gun, a little heavier than I like for a field pistol.
Wish I had kept the Super Blackhawk, very accurate revolver.
Very happy with the Colt Woodsman. I have a couple other .22 pistol/revolvers to shoot, though, for field use.

Sorry, didn't answer the primary question, the High Standard would the keeper for me over the Ruger Mk II.
