I need your opinions, which 357 magnum powder should I get from powdervalley that is currently in stock? All of the rest of my order has been ready for a long, long time except for H110.

Ive been watching their site for a month looking for any decent 357 magnum powder to become available. Ive looked at AA#9, Win296/H110, and Bluedot but none have been availble. I really don't want to have to settle on a medicore powder, I wan't something that will really send the bullet moving.

I have looked at the ramshot enforcer, and according to their website's loading data it seems decent enough. However I can't find any posts talking about it using a 125 gr bullet.

So whats your opinion? The load will be using a 125 gr FMJ bullet, and I would prefer a powder that doesn't use a magnum primer but if I have to thats fine. *EDIT* I need about 4lbs, definitely dont want 8lb jugs *EDIT*

2400 if you can get it. Speer #13 shows loads without mag primers. Great for full house .357 loads. They have 8lb canisters available.

Alliant 2400 is The original .357 Mag powder, and is hard to improve on even today for general all around use.

Yes, must be powder valley. I only need 4lbs, not 8lbs. So making a seperate order somewhere else and paying aother hazmat and shipping fee is too much. Ive looked at 2400, it would be nice but its only available in 8lbs. That is unless someone in the Dallas area wants to split an 8lb jug.

I like 2400. Lil gun works good on heavy bullets. I know they have lil gun in stock. I just put an order in with PV today.

Isn't W296/H100 a little too slow for the 125gr and lower weight bullets? I believe that those two powders are at their best with 140gr and higher. I would try 2400 or Blue Dot, but I have no experience with either.

I don't think any of you read what I was asking. I asked which was IN STOCK, for use with 125gr fmj, and no 8lb jugs.

I recently purchased some IMR 4227 from PV, with a 125 grain jhp it shoots pretty well. Less recoil & muzzle flash than 2400 at the max charge

Decided i'm going to try to find someone to split the 8lbs of 2400 with, FTF. Thanks for the opinions.

It would help if you told us what powders are available at PV in 4# cans. We shouldn't all have to look that up just to answer your question. With a list of available powders, I'll be we could supply good opinions as to which is best.

Herco or AA#7.

Hodgdon's Longshot looks interesting, but I haven't tried it.
IMO all those powders are too fast for maximum velocities. They are good for medium to medium hot .357 Magnum rounds. I've used Longshot in the .357 Magnum but the pressures will become exceedingly high if you try to achieve high velocities. Longshot is a good choice for jacketed .38 Special +P rounds though.

IMO 2400 is the best choice for an all around Magnum powder because unlike W296/H110 you can download it for times you don't need all that velocity. Also, 2400 is probably one of the few Magnum powders that doesn't need a Magnum primer. (actually, 2400 works better with a standard primer)

Powder Valley still has 8lb jugs of 2400 in stock and the price is VERY good. 8lbs won't last as long as toy think since when loading a 125gr jacketed bullet you can use as much as 17.5gr 2400. I know, I know, that would be well over 3,000 rounds but in reality, that's not really an excessive number of rounds. (it's not like being able to load over 15,000 rounds of .38 Special with 8 lbs of W231! LOL)
