I have acquired a Beretta CX4 Storm. Mine is the 9mm version that takes Beretta 92 magazines. I have it in mind that I might set it up as a home defense gun, when it's not doing fun PCC things, but I know virtually nothing about what sort of things I should think about mounting on its many rails. Any suggestions?

Yep, light and sling.

How do you like it? I've been wanting a Carbine for a while and they look pretty nice. LGS has had a used one in .40 on the shelf for a while. Might see what they'll take for it.

If you are going to us it for home defense, IMHO, put a light on it and be done. Anything else is just a distraction, even a sling.

For fun, I would recommend a couple of pro-mag 32 round magazines. I own 2 of them and they are completely reliable and I don't remember them being very expensive.

A light is a must for HD work. A sling can be useful for weapons retention as well, never hurts to have a good 3 point sling. Something like a Trijicon RMR or other small optic would be great, preferably something that doesn't need frequent battery changes. Depending on if you want the weapon to perform in an out-of-doors scenario, EoTech has a very cool system that consists of there reflex sight with a pivoting magnifier. Flip the magnifier out of the way when not needed. This setup could give an effective range of between 1-200 meters with the CX4 Storm, here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-_-pla-_-Binoculars+&+Optics-_-9SIA2B021E2633

A vertical foregrip is very useful for this type gun in an HD role, for stability and weapons retention. A laser aiming module would be nice but not strictly neccesary, and perhaps redundant if a RDO is used.

Also I think this would be extremely useful: http://www.lapolicegear.com/desantis-stormpacker-magazine-holster.html

It's a dual magazine pouch for the buttstock, ala M1 carbine. Very cool and good easily come in handy when more firepower is needed. You won't need to worry about where your extra mags are.

Whatever you choose, good luck and know that you have a very effective carbine for defense.

I have the same exact one.

Mine isn't used for HD, but it definitely gets used the most at the range. All I did was put a red dot on and get an 18rd MecGar mag. Good thing I reload and cast, because it's nothing for me to put 300 rounds through it every range trip.

Great pickup! I love my Storm. It's reliable, accurate and easy to shoot well. I do like a few things mounted to mine. First off I added a mount for a flashlight. I have some WMLs but on this gun I actually prefer the JETBeam BC25 that I currently have on it. It's 650 lumens at HIGH output, has a good switch, is simple to use and very durable (plus it has springs on both ends of the batteries, important for a WML).

Next I really like a VFG. I find it makes it easier to hold the gun and index the weapon light accurately when I'm in a hurry. I have a single point sling on mine but I might try a regular sling down the road.

Lastly I really like a RDS on this gun. The picture below is of my Storm with a PA Classic Red Dot but I've since swapped it out in favor of a HOLOSUN which I like a bit better.

The carbine came with 2 x 15 round 92 mags. They work fine. I picked up a pair of MecGar 18 rounders which I like a lot more. They work as well but they have a bumper on the end which extends out a little bit. This makes it easier to seat the mags. I also have 2 x 30 round mags, made by Beretta. They work well but are very long and very difficult to load. Everything after the 20th one is impossible without using my Uplula. But I expect they'll loosen but after some use. Generally I run it with the 18 rounder loaded with 147gr Federal HST.

My rifle came with a sling and two 20-round magazines so I'm set there (I also have a bunch of 15-round magazines for my M9.) I like that buttstock magazine carrier; might have to try that out.

There seem to be several vertical foregrip options; which one is preferred?

For a light I was considering one of the Streamlight setups with a laser; any thoughts on that?

Optic - red dot or something with magnification? I'd like something that will cowitness with the irons if possible; this rifle fits me quite well out of the box.

Phaedrus/69, Why do you have that riser under the PA red dot?

/Without it there the PA dot and iron sights co-witness.
