I think if you are looking for a range gun get the CZ. I would like to get one eventually.

The only one I have on the list is the P64. I got it because it was cheap and could fill a functional role for me...pocket gun. A bit heavy for it's size but that's what you get for a sturdy, pretty, all steel gun.

One thing that needs to be clarified on the P64. Yes, the double action pull is rediculously stiff. The single action pull however is awesome. Super light and crisp. I changed out the hammer/main spring to an 18lb I believe and it took a little edge off the double action pull...nothing spectacular but the single action is really nice.

Another downside is the smallish sights but I think when you get down to the nitty gritty of using this gun for defense, it's more of a point and shoot rather than aim and shoot.

Overall it's a great gun at a real bargin.

That's a very nice looking P-64 and they are a neat little pistol. I'm kind of surprised they don't have more votes on the poll. I checked them out pretty well before choosing the CZ and I did like it but other than being a little bit smaller, it was hard to deny the facts.......CZ-82: better sights, better trigger, better manufacturer, ambidextrous controls, high cap, cocked & locked or hammer down & parts availability from CZ.

But, I sure wish the CZ had the pretty finish that the 64 has! :(

Wow, looks like the CZ-82 has the best results from this poll. I like the PA-63 almost entirely for it's single-stack magazine. I picked the CZ-82 based on the obvious (manufacturer, parts availability, etc), and if it had been a single-stack like other Mak's of similar design and size, I might even get one for CCW. I still might get one just to get one and because the price and such.

I voted for the P64. I have one, and it is very concealable, reliable, and accurate. I changed the springs on mine, and the DA trigger pull is much better.

That said, I think the Bulgarian Makarovs are in stock and are awesome. Too bad it isn't on the list.

I've heard this said before. I consider a range gun, one that I take to the range for fun. I have quite a few. My M1-Garand is a range gun. My taurus revolver is a range gun. Both are fun to shoot. I have quite a few others that are range guns.

My CZ-82,, SigSauer P220, Wather PPK, AMT, and S&W Model 13, I take to the range to "Practice", but those are my carry and/or home defense guns. My CZ-82 is my carry gun 70% of the time. It's definitely not my "Range" gun. My range guns are those that are fun to shoot, but either not practical or reliable enough to be my defense guns. The 9mm makarov caliber is a great self defense round. And with the accuracy and reliability of the CZ-82, I feel perfectly safe carrying it.

The CZs are great, but you might also consider an east german mak. I picked one up years ago and its been an accurate and reliable shooter

I have both a CZ-82 and an East German Makarov. The CZ-82 by far is my favorite of the two. Matter of fact; except for my SigSauer P220, the CZ-82 is my favorite pistol of all the ones I own.

I've got the CZ-82, P-83, P-64, and Maks of many flavors. To better answer what 9x18 you might want (to start with, they are addictive), tell us more about what you want to do with the pistol, or what interests you. Collecting? Carrying? Range/fun gun? Just want something different?

For the most needs (daily carry, range, etc), I'd probably go with the CZ-82. IMHO, best trigger of the bunch, best sights, highest capacity, accurate. Only drawback is that its a tad heaver/bulkier than the others. On the other hand, it's virtually indestructable.

The P-83 Wanad (wz. 83) has a decent trigger, reasonable military sights. It's comparable to the Mak in size, but with more forgiving grips. The stamped metal construction of the Wanad makes it "feel" like a cheaper pistol than the Makarov, though so far i has been reliable ... and accurate. I just haven't had it long enough to feel 100% with it for CCW yet.

I've found the P-64 Czak (wz. 64) to be more concealable, but less shootable (for me) even with spring adjustments - the sights and grip are too small for me. It's a "fun gun" for me, not a CCW piece.

The Makarovs are a classic. You'd do fine with Bulgarian, EG or Russian. You'll save money that can be used for ammo/holsters/etc with the Bulgarian. Reliable, accurate pistols.

So, my preference ranking would be CZ-82, then Makarov.
