Which AR-10 would you buy two choices only!!!

Their is no "Mil Spec" on this pattern of gun, so everyone added a bit or took away from the general Stoner design to fit their needs.
That is absolutely true! There is no "standard" in the AR-10 line ... but manufacturers are leaning to the DPMS pattern (which is odd because they "borrowed" it from KAC's Stoner design.

A couple of examples ...

I put a RRA 2-stage FCG in my DPMS LR-308 and it started short stroking ... the hammer was dragging on the bolt, slowing it down to the point it wouldn't strip the next round off the mag. I was fortunate it didn't cause any damage ... I tested it in my Stoner SR25 and it was fine and it was fine in my SiG-716 as well but I had to take about an 1/8" off the top corner/face of the hammer for it to function in the DPMS.

Also, I recently built a Spikes 308 receiver set (it came with the upper and lower) into a 6.5 Creedmoor ... the receivers wouldn't cross fit on the Stoner, DPMS or the SiG! Likewise the Stoner wouldn't fit on the SiG or the DPMS and I don't recall if the SiG and DPMS would interchange or not ... I've since sold the DPMS so it doesn't really matter now anyway!

The barrel for my build was from JP Enterprise and it came with a bolt that was head-spaced for that barrel ... I had also looked at Kreiger and if I'd gotten a barrel from them, they required I send them the bolt.

------------

I don't know what the problem was with your SiG-716 but I get around MOA with some old Hirtenberger surplus I bought back in the 90's ... it does better with good ammo, but it definitely likes heavy bullets (like 175's) better than the 147's you commonly find on sale, with those, the best I could get was 2-3" at 100 yards.

To be technically correct, the only company that makes "THE" AR-10 is Armalite ... because they own the name ... everything else is an AR-10 pattern rifle ... just like the only company that can name their rifle "AR-15" is Colt, everything else is an AR-15 pattern rifle.

Last Winter "Recoil" magazine put out a very nice article comparing 4 or 5 AR Pattern rifles in .308.
It might be worth your time to see if you can find a back issue to help you.

Some years back I was getting rid of a boat anchor like piece of doody made by Sig and called a carbine. By that time I was completely fed up with Sig's line of carbines and their lack of Q/C and Customer Service.
I was wanting to trade this poor excuse away for a AR pattern rifle in .308 and here is what I found that at the time was true.
Their is no "Mil Spec" on this pattern of gun, so everyone added a bit or took away from the general Stoner design to fit their needs. The real down side was that there was NO real chance of swapping some of the parts or magazines from manufacturer to manufacturer. To some extent that would seem to remain true.
In my frustration I decided the answer at the time was an M1A. I cannot say that is still true, but at the time it was.
I wish you well on your search.

That's the second time I've heard bad stuff about Sig's rifles. I can't remember what the last issue was, but I remember being so disgusted I vowed to never buy a Sig. If I remember correctly, the barrel didn't have any rifling in it. While they did replace that guy's rifle, how does something like that leave the factory?
