Hi All
I am going to be looking for a new pistol soon. It will be a daily carry gun. Concealed carry most of the time, but open carry is not out of the question from time to time. Must be rugged and reliable. Must be able to get spare mags at a resonable cost. Must be either 9mm.

I might concider 40 S&W also.

So what woud you suggest and what sort of leather to carry it in? Jeans and tee shirts most of the time.

Thanks
WB

You're going to have to narrow down the type of pistol and features. ie; ACTIONS: striker fired, DA/SA, Single Action SIZE: Duty, Compact,Sub-Compact BUILD: Alloy, Steel, Polymer. USE: CCW only or CCW and range gun GRIP: large or smaller hands. And price range has to be factored in. Without narrowing these items down there are just too many choices.

I am open to any of the action types. Most of the DA shooting I have done was with a revlolever. I found a smith DA pull sort of bothered me. Size wise Full size to compact ( don't like the small sized glock for reason of fit). Makeup I can go with any of them, lighter would be better I guess as I am talking about carrying it every day. But I am not going to say no to a steel gun if its what I need. CCW most of the time as I said, Range time when I get to go. Hand size, large I guess. I have no problume holding onto a 1911 or one of the Glock (17, 19, 22, 23) an M9 feels a little big. I can shoot it but it just feels big to me. Same with a Glock 21. Price wise I would like to keep it under $1500.

It should work well with out having to go to a gunsmith to be made reliable. Its going to be carryed more then shot I think.

Hope that helps some?

taurus 709 slim or stoeger cougar compact. Just go pick up a bunch of compact 9's and 40's until you find one that fits your hand exceedingly well.

Glock 19,23,26
Dan Wesson CCO, Guardian (I think they can be ordered in 9mm)
Les Baer offers 4" 1911's in .40

Kahr K9, P9, Mk9, Pm9 (Note that Kahrs are CCW oriented and don't have the race triggers that Glocks and 1911's do.)

Leather? Bah wha hahaha:neener:.

Crossbreed for IWB (upgrade to horsehide)
Ravens Concealment for OWB.

^ what Zerodefect says.

+another for Glock 19.
feeling like something a bit classy? the DW Guardian in 9mm. Well built, slim, and just sexy.... good 2nd option.

But if you go with the glock, you'll have a ton of money left for holster, belt, and accessories. I like Theis holsters (horsehide) and a good Glaco belt for my carry rig. I too like Ravens or NTAC for OWB.

I have to go with the XD40 hands down. no lever saftey to fool with. there is a saftey in the grip and the trigger. just pick it up and it's ready to roll. I do NOT feel comfortable sticking a Glock in my shorts...

With your requirements the field is pretty much wide open. Commander size 1911s are nice to conceal.{although I don't carry one}
My cool weather carry is a 3rd Gen. S&W 5906 and summer is a PT709. While the 709 has been one of the best sub compacts I've shot, due to the chance of getting a lemon, I never suggest anyone buy one.
On the other hand, the S&W is one of the finest handguns I own.

As far as gun leather, that's just a matter of taste and price. DeSantis holsters are very affordable and have served me well for years. I'm not on for fancy, just functional.

I think one of the best pistols out now is an XDm 3.8 Compact and possibly a Ruger SR9c altho' I don't have personal experience with the Ruger. I just like the two guns in one approach. I'm very happy with my XDm. Since you have the money, I'd take serious look at any of the SIG or HK's, they are guns for a lifetime. Not that Berettas' and many others aren't. They are well built and hold their value.

Wildbillz you have left every thing open to opinion :what:

You need to put them all in your hands and try each.
Find the one that fits you

For me I have had great luck with SIGs and Rugers....

One of my best fitting guns is the Ruger SR9c... Small to Carry, 10 or 17 rds, American made ..

But that is just my 2 cents :neener:

Lateck,

I know. I did it on purpus. I want to see what the favored one is when the road is open and clear. Right now it looks like the G19 is a sound choise.

I plan on going to the local indoor range and renting a bunch to try them out. I am realy just looking for an excuse to buy another gun.

I hadn't thought about the H&Ks so I will have to look at them. I started out thinking of a Sig last night thats what lead me to post the question.

Thanks
WB

Glock is the one you hear about the most cause it has a ton of fan boys that are quick to try getting others to buy Glock. Fact of matter is there is a lot better pistols out there. Glocks are good and I don't think you would be doing bad to get one, but on the other hand its not the greatest weapon in the world as Glock fans would have one believe. Personally its hard to beat a steel pistol either 1911, CZ 75, Hi Power, SIG and the list goes on, but those can be heavy for carry though some don't mind the weight. Other great polymer pistols out there besides the Glock is the XD (kinda like Glock but personally I think Glock is a tad better), the SR9 and SR9c are also great pistols I am currently favoring the SR9c as its good for carry with the short mag and long mag makes it good for everything else and it feels great in my hands, Also don't forget some of the less usual polymer pistols such as polymer witness, CZ Rami which are also great.

Simply put we live in a time where there are SO many great options that just to limit yourself to the one that has the most fans could be a waste... notice I said could, it depends on your needs for the weapon and what you want to do with it.

Happy hunting, you aren't alone many of us have a hard time deciding what our next pistol should be.

Carry guns are sorta like jewelry fine watches for men. I prefer to have one for each day of the week or outfit, as it suits me. 9mm, 10mm, 357, 44 magnum... With so many choices and fine firearms out there, why limit yourself?

A Sig P239 seems to fit everything you specified just about perfectly. And it's available in either .40S&W or 9mm, so take your pick.

Will, I hate to be a bandwagon jumper, but you will be hard-pressed to beat a Glock 19. I don't have anything against a Sig 239, but to me it is too big to have the capacity it has. And the CZ compact would be an excellent choice too.

The most important thing is to get them in your hand to find out how the varying designs point for you. I.e. close your eyes and bring it up to point at a spot on the wall. Then open your eyes and see if the sights are lined up perfectly. The right gun for you will do this.

Just my .02 CZ 75B or 75 compact. Reliable, all steel, can be carried cocked and locked, mags are reasonable and interchangeable between models. (thou the full size will extend from the bottom of the compact)
