Which cartridge would you select in these calibers?

Oh can we add calibers?
.257 .257STW 28" 1-8 or 9 twist custom 700 or abolt. Cause who needs balistic efficiency

.277 .270Win, or .270wsm, for the sams reason as the .308win

.31 x54 in a Super Veper....I mean common, talk about a sexy AK...ish

.32 8mm Remington Magnum, 28" custom 700 or abolt same reason as the .257, except hopefully less recoil than the .338 ultra I shot.

.33 .338 Ruger in a 22" barreled ultralight, cause it's a cool idea.

.34 .348....cause

.35 .358 Norma on a Ruger Hawkeye running a 23" barrel. Best balanced medium bore I've never used......

.36 9.3x62 custom mauser similar to the above .35 in concept and reason.

.37.....I own it, .375 Ruger Abolt. What's not to like about a 270gr bullet at 2800ish from a 8.25lb rifle???

.38...uhhh\
I'm sure there IS one.....maybe....
.39...unhh/

.40 (ok .41) .405 Winchester 1895....cause TEDDY!
And I've always wanted an 1895......

I'm gonna stop there, and jump straight to the .45 .as.ibe never considered my low .40 wants farther than the .405.

.45 .458Socom in a Ruger American, cause I have no interest in the Bushy.....

all fine cartridges the recoil on the 8rm is not to bad, dad did one on a savage it turned in to a 338/8mmrm after the barrel was shot out.

Sticking to the original question:

1.) 7.62mm: .300 Norma Magnum, in the Accuracy International AX MC, with whatever chamber spec US SOCOM has specified for the 220gr pill.

2.) 7mm: Already have the only one I want, a .280 Ackley in a Cooper M52.

3.) 6.5mm: Sorry everyone, but a 6.5 Creedmoor in a KRG SOTIC. Make mine a folding stock with the Chanlynn Barrel Upgrade please! Or a barrel, and bolt for the AI AX MC. Either would be splendid.

4.) 6mm: 243 Winchester in a nice classy light weight wood stocked Model 70.

5.) 5.56mm: I already have a bunch of 5.56mm NATO firearms, I don’t need more. So I’ll take a .22-250 but in a 1:8” twist barrel.

7.62mm: 7.62x39. I have a completely unfounded and irrational dislike of the 308, and the x39 tends to come in some fun guns.
7mm: 270 Win.
6.5mm: nothing pops to mind except the Swede and the Creedmoor. I'll be one of the cool kids and say the Creedmoor.
6mm: can't think of anything besides 243.
5.56mm: I'll be a contrarian and say 220 Swift.

22-250

I like the ability to shoot flat. 300 is the top of my recoil tolerance. The rest are pushing the limit of overbore.
Each can be slowed down with bluedot.

21- 218 Bee
22- 22 savage imp

The Grendel vs 243 debate had me thinking about buying a new rifle. Not that I'm buying a new rifle but many here might be considering one. I won't break it down any further than the caliber because obviously that would just bog us down. I think people understand enough about the suitability for their choices for the application they have in mind. Lots of different applications like BR, hunting or range toy so let's just skip that here. Let's also skip the pistol cartridges because that's a pretty small niche. I'm basically just curious what others might choose in a bottleneck rifle cartridge. It can be a really old cartridge like a 30-30 or new comer like a Grendel. If you're an AR fan that doesn't matter either. They qualify as rifles and some people wouldn't own anything else. You can justify your choices or not, doesn't matter.

So here's the size of the hole in the barrel metrically. 7.62mm (30 cal), 7mm or (284 cal), 6.5mm (264 cal), 6mm (243 cal) and 5.56mm (224 cal).

These are my choices, with no particular reason. I'm curious what yours might be. Remember, this isn't something you already own, it's something for Christmas for you or somebody you're buying for. :)

7.62mm 308 Win.
7mm 7mm-08
6.5mm 6.5 CM
6mm 243
5.56mm 5.56x45
Agree across the board- except, if you have a 6.5 CM, doesn't make that 308 a little redundant? I think something like a 300 win mag would make more sense if you wanted to up your game in terms of range or critter size.

22 make mine a 223.
6mm... I'll take "what is 243 Alex"
6.5... grendell.
7mm... might as well go with the Remington mag.
7.62ish... I really like 7.62x39.

Probably. I was just looking at what cartridges a person might choose when buying a new rifle in any of those caliber choices. I know there's a lot of overlap there and most wouldn't own one of each. A person could probably choose only two and have the bases covered.

.300Win Mag- about the most powerful .30 that has easy to find ammo/components. But if .300H&H ammo were more common I'd maybe go for that instead.
7mm-08- Decent power without being a magnum, ammo availability is good, and plenty of choices in bolt actions and also easy to find AR-10 barrels
6.5CM- because I'm not a cool kid......and the very second I get one the cool kids will all sell theirs off for good losses. Then I'll be able to afford a couple more. It's a joke, calm down.
.224 Valkyrie I already have a few 5.56/.223 firearms, and I like variety

6.5mm 6.5x55SE
6mm Zero interest
5.56mm 222 Rem

300 Weatherby Magnum
7mm-08

I have no use for anything smaller in a centerfire rifle so I'll stop there.
