so.. 7.62x40 WT wont fit into something like a pmag? they need special mags?
which .223 based cartridge?

unfortunately .25 cal bullets are not all that common, not as much as 6mm, 6.5mm, .270, and .308 cal, i like common, common generally means less expensive
my goal is a military type of cartridge that surpasses .223/5.56 but with the same brass, bolts, and magazines, while equaling the capabilities and barrier penetration of 7.62x39... 25-45 sharps, .277 wolverine, .300 blackout, and 7.62x40WT seem to do that.. since i want something that uses the same bolts and magazines this means id only need a new barrel, this would end up going on a new AK-74 build which has a compatible bolt, mags, and as far as barrels go an AK barrel has no threads, headspacing is brutally simple, i will just have a barrel contoured for the AK-74
