Which Cheap .22 Bolt Action ?

I like being able to shoot long or shorts rounds and I don't have to buy spare mags but at the same its easier to unload mag fed. Anybody know which one is more accurate ? Or are they about the same ? I'm leaning towards the Marlin anyone have any other suggestions that are a little cheaper ? Thanks.

I'd suggest looking for a Remington Model 5. They can be found now for under $200 and the quality is far better than the price would suggest. They are also quite accurate and have an adjustable trigger.

of the ones you are considering, i'd pick the savage as usually being more accurate.

my personal choice, if you can fine one, would be a Romainian M69 for it's outstanding accuracy and folding sights

The Marlin is a good gun but so is the Savage if it's just plinking I would go Savage the money you save will buy a load of .22

Personally, I like the tube magazine on the 981. Can't lose the mag that way.

Either are accurate "enough" unless you are trying to shoot match heads at 100 yards!

I've always liked that feature. However...... I own, love and also suggest

looking for a Remington Model 5

(mine is a Zastava, same thing) It has a great "big rifle" feel and the bluing is just plain NICE.
and also:

a Romainian M69 for it's outstanding accuracy and folding sights

shoots like a dream, though at times picky in the mag dept.

Though either one of your picks would be a good one.

Buy the Savage. It WILL shoot match heads at 100yrds! (stretch) You'll also like magazines better than a tube fed gun.

I personally prefer the tubular magazine rifles. They don't have as nice a form as the clip fed type, but I find them much easier to load overall than detachable magazines. It is also nice that with certain rifles you can shoot shorts, longs and Long rifles without modification or jamming.

But the one you like best. Buy both. Always the answer.

My CZ 452 Trainer and Remington Model Five Zastava is more accurate than my Marlin model 880 Squirrel HB and my Savage Mark II stainless synthetic.

I got Mark II mags at Dick's at a decent price. I have a Simmons .22mag 4x scope on my Mark IIF (the whole rig was under $150). I bought it as a utility/barn gun, but I swear it groups as well at 50yds as my CZ452/Leupold at $600.

The Remington Model 5 is a heck of a lot of gun for the price. I believe it can still be found for under $200.

Winchester Wildcat. I got mine on sale for $99 (you probably can't do that well now). Shoots about 5/8" at 50 yds.

the 981 will outshoot the savage and the remington, plus it will hold almost 25 shorts at one time. Also, an unbelievably accurate round in it, is the cci
22 short hollow point, simply amazing. If you don't like the stock , find an old 22mag tube fed marlin stock, in wood, walnut or laminate, and you will find it is even more accurate, and a beauty.

Cj42, I have a Mark II also which I like very much. I prefer the 5-round mags. I have a extra 10, but I want a couple 5's. Think I'll check Dicks the next time I'm there. What do those Tasco's run $$?

I have seen them as cheap as 35 bucks in stores, in the hard blister pac, and comes with glasses and earmuffs sometimes!!!!! awesome.now ther are two versions of this scope, one does not have the adjustable objective-AO.
So don't get that one.

Dude above; check again, I do not see the letters AO, anywhere in those model numbers. Remember; they have two of the golden antler models. One is a straight centerfire type, with no AO, the other is the one I mentioned; it says right on the package, Adult, spring piston, air rifle rated, and will also mention the adjustable objective, down to 7 meters or feet. make sure you get the air rifle rated model, it is night and day better.

i got a shooters ridge rockmount bipod at wally world for 39.95 it is a decent bipod for the price.they also sell a centerpoint scope for 70.00 i think. it seemed decent but i have not bought it yet still doing research on the cheaper scopes.
