What issues would one run into if shooting a .22 short in a bolt action rifle that says ".22 LR only" on the barrel? As far as that goes, what is the issue with .22 long, since the case is the same length as a .22LR ?
Reason I ask is, I have a couple hundred .22 short, from ages ago. The stuff is at least 30 years old, maybe more. I have a Savage Springfield Model 187N .22 semi-auto that says ".22 S, L, and LR" on the barrel, which I find rather odd, because it will not cycle when shooting shorts, and jams about half the time trying to feed them. It runs perfectly on LR's.
I also have a Marlin XT22 bolt action, but it says ".22 LR only" on the barrel. I'd like to shoot up these .22 shorts and get rid of them, but it would be easier single loading them in the bolt action, rather than trying to feed them through the semi.
