I took a couple of test shot today and I think I received a bad magazine. It keeps jamming on every round. I should be able to shoot CCI .22LR sub sonics(750fps) correct ?

i have a Marlin 981t. Love it!!!

Shoots everything. I love to shoot CB's in the back yard. Less noise than my frends pellet gun.

And I paid $149.

Can't beat that. And forget about a scope. Iron sights are fine. I whacked a crow in the a$$ from 75 yards with the CB's. even beter longer accuracy with 40 grain CCI mini-mags.

So all that said...get the Marlin 981t.

Easily the savage.

I've been consitantly getting one-hole three shot groups with mine at 25 yards. I bet it'll do aournd .5" or so at 50 yards.

IMO, it's one of the best bolt .22's around.

This gun shoots accurate but these magazine are terrible. The original mag that came with the gun is really bad its impossibe to shoot two bullets in a row. Other then that this gun great and the Tasco scope is better then I was expecting.

Jamming, not good. Takes the fun out of it. I believe Walmart sells mags for the Mark II. I would take your mag along to compare when you buy. You don't see the 5-rounders much in stores; only 10's. I need a couple myself.

I would also call Savage and talk to their customer service folks. But I would try to get a mag or two in the meantime.

I have extra mags. You can get them at gunsource.com for $13 for the 5 or the 10 round mags. Are the 5 mags any better ?

cj42 is it possible you are touching the mag with your arm or something else while shooting it?

My MkII does the same thing if I inadvertantly touch the mag.

You might also try leaving the mag loaded while it is stored to help condition the spring.

Mine gave me similar troubles, but what I mentioned above cured the trouble.

I have a Savage Mark-IIF with the accutrigger (got it two days ago). Haven't shot it yet, but I would definitely rather have a detachable mag.

last time i took my marlin bolt action .22 to the range I put about 30 rounds inside of a ragged quarter sized hole at 50 yards

I would recomend a Savage MKII series rifle if you want to buy domestic.

If you dont mind otherwise, than the russian and yugoslavian rifles offered by Winchester and Remington, the TOZ and Zastava, are excellent rifles as well, and availible new for under $200. The Zastava is sold as the Remington model 5, and the TOZ as the Winchester wildcat. :)

I guess you getr what you pay for :-(

Well its no the mags. It does matter which one I use its impoosible to enjoy shooting this gun. I can fill a new mag slide it in and the first round will jam. I going to have to send it to Savage errr ! I am not touching the magizine when I shoot. When I watch the bolt come back the bullets are not inline with the barrel. They are low by at least an 1/8" and it looks like the bullets are diving down when the bolt moves forward. I should have went with the marlin I think.

I believe Savage Arms is a Canadian company. They import them here through their own company as well, though, last time I checked.

I have a Marlin 981T and with a cheap Bushnell 4X it shoots all 17 rounds through a quarter sized hole at 75 yards. For the money these are great rifles. The trigger is sorta rough but I got used to it real fast and it's caused me no major issues with accuracy.
