I HAVE A DILLEMMA, I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE I SHOULD GET BETWEEN A G17 OR G26?? WHICH ONE IS BETTER?? WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS, OULD LIKE IT AS A BACK UP WHILE DEER HUNTING, OR CONCEALED CARRY, OR TARGET SHOOTING, OR ??? THANKS GUYS!!!

Or a 1911?? If a 1911, which brand/model??

Thanks!

IMO, the Glock 19 is the best choice in the 9mm Glock line up -- if you decide to go 45 acp and want a 1911 -- Colt is the only way to go ;)

I agree with 10-ring that a Glock 19 really is the best of both worlds between the 17 and 26.

In 1911s I like full size Colts & Springfields, and Colt Commanders.

WHICH ONE I SHOULD GET BETWEEN A G17 OR G26??
I'd split the difference with a Glock 19. Small enough to CCW and lone enough between sights for ample accuracy.

I'd also get a 1911 a great gun in .45 I like Glocks in 9mm, HK & Sig's in .40 and 1911's in .45.

The Glock 17 will give you 18 rounds, a longer sight radius, less felt recoil, and a more substantial grip.

The Glock 26 will you 11 rounds and a small, compact gun that's very easily concealed.

A 1911 is a lot heavier than either of these Glocks and that can sometimes diminish your comfort factor when carrying concealed.

On the range, a G17 and a 1911 will probably be more fun to shoot and give you greater accuracy at longer distances than the G26.

Ultimately you can't go wrong with any of the guns on your list. In fact, I have all 3!

And yet another choice

Given your choice of 9mm I would go with the G19. I don't currently own one but I do own both a 23 in 40 S&W and a 32 in 357 sig. The G-19 is the same size as both of these pistols. Personally, I like the power of the 40 over the 9mm. You might wantto consider that instead.

Well I have a g-17 and a g-26 and wish I had a g-19. I have a lw colt commander. The commander and the g-17 get carried the most. The g-26 got carried a lot when there were only 10rds mags around. I have a g-32 with a light on it beside the bed. Would second the g-19 but any mid size glock is nice. Patrick

Those are three very different guns. I suspect that if you do a little reading on each of them, and think about your personal requirements and preferences a little bit, the choice will become obvious.

If you are planning on carrying concealed, the G26 is a little easier to conceal than the G19 or G17.

Thanks!

Seems that the Glock 19 got the most votes, thanks guys I will go with this one. I felt that the 9mm was more accurate and manageable, as the .40 cal was kind of harder to manage- Is there much more power there with the .40 cal? Is the .40 cal better for hunting than a +p 9mm?? Now, I'm stuck between .40 cal and 9mm... Thanks in advance!!:)

Anothre vote for a Glock 19. Best all around size Glock 9. The agency I worked for originally had G19s for general issue and G17s available initially. The brass wanted a smaller gun and got G26s. The only advantage the 26 has over the 19 as far as I've seen is the slightly smaller size made it easier to draw from an ankle holster. 9mm is about the cheapest ammo available for centerfire autos.

When the 26s came I traded my 19 for a 17 and also had a 26.

I don't care for +P in 9mm. You don't get much more in velocity (100-150 fps) although a quality pistol like a Glock can take the extra pressures. A 40 S&W has more power than a 9mm but if you want a hunting handgun get a 357, 41, or 44 mag revolver for genuine versitility. A 357 SIG or 10mm if you don't want as many ammo choices. You can hunt anything you can legally hunt with a 40 with a 9mm.

A Glock 17 will do more things better, than the 26. The only place the 26 really excels is CCW, but it's not that much better than the 17.

Sure the 19 would probably be a great compromise, giving you the best attributes of both the 17 and 26, but you have to decide if that is an option or not.

Lot's of great 1911's out there.

Pick which platform you want now and dedicate yourself to it until you master it.

Misses don't count. If you shoot the 9mm chambered guns accurately, and you find them more controllable - which equates to quicker and more accurate followup shots - get the 9mm. The fact that it's cheaper to feed equates to more practice for the same money, which is a good thing. Yes, the 40 S&W is more powerful on paper, but 1) shot placement is king, and 2) modern premium JHPs have narrowed the performance gap to the point that it's negligable.

As for hunting with a handgun, check your state's hunting regs for caliber requirements. In some sates you can hunt with a 9mm or 40 S&W, but even then I don't recommend it. 10mm in semi-auto gives you more factory loadings with bullets designed for hunting (but remember that .40 S&W is a shortened a less powerful 10mm, so expect some recoil from the 10mm). I'd strongly advocate a .357 Mag revolver for handgun hunting though. The .357 Mag is widely available, and there are several factory loads for it intended specifically for hunting - but that's for another thread.

I think the G19 would be a great all around gun to start with. The biggest thing is to start somewhere. As you gain more experience all the little things you want in an ideal handgun will become apparent. Most folks here have bought & traded several guns to find the ones that work for them. I have several different handguns for different purposes. Like I said get started, and it'll work itself out.

Glocks will work. 1911's might work.

1911's will have better triggers and ergonomics. But Glock triggers are better than those of most other autos.

Glocks are lighter, for carry. 1911's are slimmer.

If you drop a Glock, who cares? They're born ugly. 1911's are beautiful.

Glocks are simpler to shoot. Just pull trigger. 1911 safeties can be forgotten in emergencies, and the trigger won't pull.
