Guys,

Just had a bad experience trying to get a P99...so I decided to go with the Austrians....

Which Glock for conceal/personal protection?

1st it's gotta be 9MM....for reasons I do not wish to discuss...

17? 19? or the 34?

Tell me why....

If you wont discuss your reasoning for getting a certain gun, and your preferences, how can you expect others to make recommendations?
 
I just got back from the range...rented a model 19 because I'm thinking about polluting my revolver collection :D with a semi. The 19 is (IMO) similar in size to the "commander/champion" in 1911 config. That's about as big as I can comfortably conceal. The "baby glocks" I've fired are a real handful (.40&.45 acp) because of the short grip frame. The 9mm may be a bit easier to handle. However, the small ones are definitely more concealable. I guess I would opt for the 19 if it is going to be used for multiple purposes. Rent/borrow one if you can and see which one fits the bill according to you. I was quite impressed (being the revolver guy that I am) with the accuracy, handling and feel of this pistol. I'm definitely hooking up with the 19 as soon as the tax $$$ comes in.........

He was simply saying he didnt want to discuss his caliber choice. So, without arguing about how undeadly a 9mm is, what is best between the 17 19 and 34?

Any of the three would be great. The 19 will conceal easier for most people obviously. I prefer the 34 because I have no problems concealing it and I shoot it best.
 
IMHO the 9mm Glocks are the best anyway . . . and I've been singularly unimpressed with the Walther P99s I've seen on the firing line.

Getting back to Glocks, I have both a 17 and a 26 . . . the 26 is easier to conceal and is more reliable than the 17. (The 17 is a 1st generation gun and it frequently jams when I let a lady shoot it - "limp wrist" syndrome, I suppose.) So far, I've been unable to MAKE the 26 jam, even when shooting with a limp wrist and a thumb-and-forefinger hold.

The G19, though it's larger than the 26, is still very concealable. I'll probably get one of those in the not too distant future - a late 3rd generation version, of course.
 
Go with the 19. LIght, compact, and 15 rounds in the mag. Shoots real well. I can dump the mag at 25 yards very fast and nail an 8x10 paper like there aint no tomorrow. YMMV, but I think the gun is tops.

I love my 17 and even when training weak hand only dont have a problem with Limp Wristing as long as you think about it.

Though I have never fired any other GLOCKS. Just wanted to give a good word to the 17. :rolleyes:
 
Glock 17. The original. I sold my 19 as it just wasn't as comfortable for me. I don't think the size is that much between the two, then again I carry a 1911.
 
I've got a 17 1st gen and its extremely reliable, but i plan on getting a 19 for ccw. If size isn't an issue, opt for the 17, if size is an issue, the 19 is calling your name. :D
 
I carry a G26. If I want a grip the exact same size as the G19, with 15 rds. in the mag, I just use a G19 mag with A&G sleeve. The G19 is also easy to conceal; however, it's easier to make the G26's grip longer than it is to make the G19's slide, barrel and grip shorter. ;)

Let's see.

The G26 can be carried:

  • On the belt.

    Inside the waistband.

    In the pocket.

    On the ankle. (Try doing that with a G19!!!)

I have personally used all of the above carry modes with the G26 on the left, shown above.

Not to mention the G26 will accept the magazines of it's bigger brothers. When I carry my G26 (I usually hoof a G36, when I carry a Glock), I have two 17 round G17 mags in the pocket!! :what:
 
I like the 17. It is ridiculously high capacity (18 rounds or 20 with +2) and it has enough barrel to propel the 9mm at near .357 velocity. Plus, it is the Glock as it was meant to be (the original).
 
Get the one that fits your hand.

You can conceal pretty much anything if you're creative. :)

/me, who can (and has) carried both a Beretta 96 w/two reloads and a Bersa .380 with three reloads (grand total of 60 rounds) with nothing more than a shoulder holster and a sweatshirt
 
Glock 19 or 26 all the way.

Get the 19 unless you need ankle carry and then the 26 is fantastic. I had a 26 for a very long time until I got a 27. Now I carry the 27 all the time.
 
I think the G17 is by far one of the BEST 9mm sidearms out there today. I've put many thousands of rnds through mine and have never had a problem of any kind. I'd put it up against just about anything in a reliability\durability test. IMO a Glock in 9mm is the way to go, just pick the size that works best for you and go from there.
 
+1 for the 19, if it must be a glock then i would agree that it should be the 19. Not to small not to big, carries plenty of rds, the only thing I would change on one is the sights, I can't stand those standard glock sights! Magazines are cheap and acessories are everywhere!
 
I can recommend the 17 or 19. I personally prefer the 17 (that is currently my semi-auto of choice) but have carried a 19 in the past. I have fairly big hands so the 17 fits my hand better.

Interesting selection, all are good enough for the task. Since you've specified the caliber, your declared variable is size. Of the three that you mentioned, you've basically listed small medium, and longer barrel lengths. NOTE: the 17 & 34 share the same frame, so the grip is identical, only the barrel and slide length are the differential factor.

Now if you're interested, please allow me to opine regarding my experiences. Glock has three frame sizes for the 9x19mm, they produce the 26, 19, and 17/34. I've owned one of each size. Yes, they all shoot well, they all fit the same holster and magazine holders too. I've found over the years that both the 26 and 17 fit my hand better, thus a more natural comfortable, and quicker shooting characteristic. NOTE: these are both subjective observations base on my personal feedback combined with objective measurements using a shot timer. Yeah, I've made many runs with each platform on plate racks and monitored my times using each. With that information the 26 and 17 have been used quite a bit for both serious and casual applications. The 19 has been traded off.

Hey, what ever you choose you can always use some of those G18 mags for some range fun! Best of luck to your quest for your acquisition effort. Try'em and buy'em! Cheers!
