Just looking for opinions. I have both of these pistols and both are excellent ccw guns. Both are 9mm, conceal well, and function great. I shoot both equally well. If you were going to choose only one which would you keep for your every day carry gun? Which one do you think is better built?

I have both. The Walter is plastic. Eventhough the S&W is metal I feel of the 2 I'd go with the more dependable 9MM 3913

I am a big fan of the 3913, no experience with the Walther. Naturally I would recommend the 3913, if its larger size (while light, slender and flat it is considerably larger in height and length) fits your carry preferences.

I use to have a S&W 3913 sold it for a S&W 5967, then afterwards wish I hadn't (sold the 5967 for another BHP). I've handled the Walther PPS at the local gunshop but wasn't impress as it felt blocky in my hand. I've never shot the Walther so I can't remark on how it function.

If I had my choice between the two it would be the Smith.

Since the OP owns both, I would recommend carrying which ever one you shoot better. Simplistic answer? Well yes, but shoot them both side by side, and carry the one that you feel better about as you walk off of the firing line.

I have have never shot the PPS, so I can't comment on it. I carried a 3913 as an off-duty gun for about 10 years. Only stopped when my state started issuing CCW permits, got one so I could carry the gun of my choice. I have carried a Glock 19 ever since.

My 3919 wears Hogue grips. This adds some width to the grip, but the trade off is well worth it for the controllability in my larger hands. As this is not a pocket gun for me, it's never been an issue.

My 3919 is now semi-retired as my "kitchen gun". It's easy to slip in my waist band for those unexpected knocks at the front door, taking out the garbage cans at O' dark thirty, or those pesky steaks that are more rare than expected...

My 3919 is a keeper.

Isn't the SIG P239 about the same size as the S&W 3913? One could use the SIG, and choose between 9mm, .357 SIG, and .40. The 239 that I handled seemed to have nice ergonomics and good trigger pull, at least as good as the S&W.

FWIW:

I had a PPS, and I have a 3913 (and actually a 3913LS)...

I like both of the Smiths better than the PPS, and I prefer the LS to the standard 3913..

And I prefer my 9MM HK P2000sk better than all three..

FWIW:

The Sig P239 is an excellent choice when considering the Walther PPS, or the 3rd Gen Smith 3913..

Additionally Crimson Trace makes an excellent Lasergrip for the P239.

3913 gets my vote, my wife carries one, and I have a 3rd gen 908 (same as the 3913 in black alloy "value series") that I am carrying more frequently all the time (in a Supertuck). Both are flawlessly reliable, and fun to shoot. (IMO, they also both benefit greatly from Hogue rubber grips.)

Nothing wrong with a PPS, I know people who like them a lot. The ergos of the PPS when firing just aren't for me.

I'll go against the grain (or rather, against the 3rd Gen. Smith cult), and say PPS. I carry mine every day of the week. It's just so comfy in CB Supertuck. I have a few other guns in my carry rotation (Ruger SP101, S&W M&P45c), but the Walther is almost always the one on my person. The others are usually on glovebox detail.

That said, you can't go wrong with either. The 3913 is such an awesome gun, and it feels good to have a nice hunk of pure metal on your hip. Something about it just feels right. Still though, there's no denying the ease of carry you get with the PPS.

I always look in my safe and think "Ah, what to carry today...?" and the PPS usually ends up in my waistband out of the desire for unrivaled comfort. Plus, I shoot it best out of all of my carry guns, and that does play a role in why I like it so much for EDC.

I love both and they both have their pluses, but overall I like the 3913 the best. If you shoot them both equally, then I say keep both and carry which ever one pulls your trigger that day.

Wish I had a problem like this.

Anybody with both that would be willing to take a few comparison pics? I'd love to see how well the two compare in thickness and overall length. I've been considering these two myself here lately.

I've owned both. I still own my 3913 and 3953 and of the two, I vastly prefer the 3913 over the PPS.

Now, the PPS is not a POS, or anything like that. If Glock ever decided to make a Single Stack 9MM, I'd point, giggle and state that Walther has had that option for years. Mine functioned flawlessly for 500 rounds. I liked the different magazine sizes and backstrap options, as well as the consistent trigger pull. The one thing I couldn't get over was the trigger guard magazine release. MAN that sucked. It just went against every muscle memory that I had of the magazine release being on the frame. Seeing as how I could never get used to it, I sold it off. That was really the only thing I didn't like about it.

If you are into the tactical plastic fantastic, than the Walther can work very well. Just beware that spare magazine prices are simply obscene.

The 3913 and 3953 (DAO variant) IMHO are the best 9MM guns that Smith and Wesson have ever made. Thin, easy to shoot, and accurate, these guns are just too nice to have. I prefer my 3953 because of the lack of silly safety levers and it's consistent DAO trigger.

Another vote for the 3913. Wonderful, and underated CCW single stack 9mm. TJ

IVe not shot the S&W but the PPS is a completly different style of gun. Being thin and being easier to conceal than most other 9mm guns is its niche.

I also prefer my Xd SC .40 over the PPS most times also. But when you need more than normal concealment the PPS shines.

At the range the PPS is my least favorite gun.
But it wasnt designed to be a fun range gun, Its a deep concealment 9mm which IMO does a great job at.
Personaly id keep both and use the one that fits that days concealment requirments.

My vote goes to the 3913. I've been carrying one daily for over a year now and absolutely love it. It is an excellent shooter and has been 100% reliable 100% of the time.

LOVE my PPS 9mm---slim, light, reliable and shoots to point of aim (after small windage adjustment)---just a really nice smaller pistol! Just put another 120 rounds thru it yesterday.
