Hi everyone, i'm new here and have a random question, just go get some opinions.
none of these weapons are similar, but rather have there own use.
So the question is im deciding in 1 of 3 guns that i'd like to purchase. 1. ruger super redhawk 454 casull. 2. Mak-90 3. Savage axis 30-06
I cant decide which id like next.

plink with the mak-90, deer hunt with the savage, and for hunting/ defense when hiking with the redhawk, but the thing with the redhawk is the weight, where im deciding between that and the glock 20. all 3 have different purposes, just not sure which i want first

i have a 22lr. i have no reason to train for it even though that is a good suggestion for someone new to firearms. im just trying to have a firearm in every category. and looking for peoples opinions

Buy an IO AK.
From what I understand, the IO Inc Ak's are every bit as "hit and miss" as the Century-imported WASR is....and more expensive to boot. Besides, he didn't ask about IO Inc AK's...he SPECIFICALLY mentioned ther Mak-90, not "an AK-pattern firearm"

i would add another gun to the list and seriously consider a shotgun as well.

since the list sounds more of a want than a need or dedicated use you may or may not be dissapointed with the choice you make.

why do these firearms appeal to you specifically?

I'd probably get more utility from a Axis or Steven's 200 (the other Savage budget gun). A .454 can be a little rough, and I personally don't desire one.

A firearm is a weapon, they had their beginnings first in warfare, and then hunting.

Just because you never used a particular firearm for self defense, or other weapon duty, does not render it a non-weapon.

I've never forgotten what my drill Sgt. said while I was still in basic training (I'm paraphrasing a little here-my stint in the military was over forty years ago :)) as he was demonstrating how to field strip an M1: "This is a weapon. Before you came here, what you guys hunted with and shot tin cans with were guns. Never let me hear you call this weapon a gun."

I have no idea as to the veracity of the Sgt's take on the matter and really don't much care anymore but I thought his admonition might be interesting in the context of this thread (of which I now seem to be a party to those who are hi-jacking it ).

I'd go with the Redhawk, but I'd see if I could try one out in that caliber first, as it's a bit of a handful. You might find you'd like one in .44 magnum instead.

If you don't have a deer rifle and need one, the Savage. If you want a plinker/zombie/SHTF firearm, the MAK 90 obviously. A 454 handgun...Owww! You must have much stronger wrists than I do. I'd put almost all firearms made before that one, YMMV, of course.

Your choices are all over the place, but believe it or not, I do understand your quandry. Still, I'm kind of wondering about the costs of your choices. I'm not really familiar with the Savage Axis line of rifles, but for the cost of the Super Redhawk, you could likely get a Mak 90 AND the Axis bolt gun. If you have that much of a budget, and want one of the three types of firearms that you mentioned, I'd be looking at an AR to fill the role of the MAK 90 or an upper line Savage or Remy 700 in place of that Axis.

Oh and I do have to add, if you've never shot a .454, be sure to shoot one before you buy. I remember when they first came out. They were all the rage and everyone was buying one. Two months after that, you could easily get a really good deal on one that had only been shot twice. .44 Mag. is a nice round for the Super Blackhawk. It's much more affordable to buy ammo and load for and you can actually shoot it a lot.

weapon, gun, firearm, bangstick, compensation for well...you get it...it doesn't matter what you call it as long as you treat it with its due respect and remember that you're representing not only yourself, but the shooting community as a whole. The sad fact is that for every thousand of us that handle our guns/weapons whatever the right way, all it takes is one deranged moron (see any newspaper's front page today) to make us all look like mentally unbalanced vigilantes who are hell bent on destruction in the eyes of the uneducated public...

sorry to continue the tread jacking...maybe we should start a new one?

thanks for the opinions guys. I've shot a super redhawk 454 before and loved it, im a decently large framed guy (6'3, 210) so the recoil doesnt bother me as bad. Yes my choices are all over the place. Next month i plan on buying a ar-30 in a 338 lapua mag so i want either a ak based gun, or a ar-10 in 308. Basically im trying to fill the spots of different types of guns for different situations and im having a very difficult time as you can see. lol. My other competition against the red hawk is the glock 20, its so much lighter and still packs a decent punch out of a auto loader.
Sorry so many choices, just all these choices are driving me nuts :banghead:

welcome to the world of firearm shopping... i have worn myself out fantasy shopping...i just keep thinking how great it would be to drop $10k on every gun I want this week, knowing that by next week, half of that list may change....and knowing that my budget is more suited to buying small amounts of ammo than it is to buying more guns
