which is a better first ar-15, LMT or S&W M&P

Im curious about an ar from just about the same reasons everybody else owns one, i familiar with the ar family pretty much, I have a little experience with them, but if I was going to get one for plinking and of course shtf , what would be the better buy. a rifle from LMT will run me about 1060 but a S&W M&P is about 850 but I heard about a 100 rebate that is available, on another post that got me to thinking. Is the LMT 200 dollars better than a M&P just curious?I heard that some LMT parts are used in the M&P

LMT uses 4150 barrel steel.
S&W uses 4140 barrel steel.

LMT has M4 feed ramps.
S&W does not.

It would be worth $200 more to me, but hey, it's your money.

LMT, Colt, and Noveske are tops for quality.

S&W is pretty good but it isn't quite the same level. Still better than bushmaster and rock river though.

Any will treat you just fine target shooting, but if you ever have to rely on the gun, you get at least $200 worth of peace of mind with one of the top brands. Personally my AR is a LMT lower and I'll be getting a Noveske upper when my tax return comes.

LMT is significantly better. S & W is merely a rebranded Stag Arms. Which isn't a bad gun, but not in the same league with LMT.

Why does this exact same line keep getting regurgitated on every firearms forum in the world?? It's not true now, and beforehand it wasn't exactly 100% correct... As the OP stated, some LMT parts have been being put in the S&W's...

That said, I would go with the LMT.

Oh, heck, Rock, regurgitation is the norm on most gunny forums, especially yarns that haven't even been properly chewed and swallered.

I think someone thinking first AR is going into the deep end of the pool with an LMT, really. I'd do a Bushy and work from there at first.
