Have a chance to trade and not have much in this thing. Just don't know exactly what it is and the owner isn't sure either. All i know is its 9mm and has 2 mags. Help is appreciated. TIA imagejpeg_0.jpg

Oh, yeah...the S&W part was a given. The guy couldn't find a model # anywhere and that was the pic he sent. I just knew it wasn't the SD9VE...which was all that really mattered to me.
He did say it's an aluminum frame, so a really rough 6904 is a possibility.

Great little gun. I much prefer them to the 3rd Gens because they have a full metal backstrap rather than the problematic wraparound plastic grip module.
Mags can be hard to find and pricey, otherwise they are GTG.

Edit- now that I mull it over, some of the compacts had an aluminum backstrap and some were Delrin. The full-size 2nd Gens all used aluminum, IIRC. Either way, better than the 3rd Gen, IMO.

Sweet. But you can't possibly tell me you saw that in the pic lol
It's got to be worth the trade anyway, but are 2nd gen Smiths worth anything in that kinda shape?
I had one, recognized it. You can also tell its only 3 digits to the model number, even if a bit too blurry to read them.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the appearance, they are pretty much bulletproof. The only other issue I remember about them is some folks reported excessive galling on the frame rails. If the fella that has it is competent to take the slide off and snap a better pic of the rails, that should seal the deal- assuming they are ok.
I dont know what the going rate for clean examples is now- I very rarely see them at local shows or shops anymore. With 2 factory mags that one would be worth $5-550 to me.

I carry my 469 still quite often. So here are some fun facts.

The 469 was the first factory compact Wonder 9.

S&W 59 magazines fit with a spacer butt plate.

The basic ergonomics from the 39, 59 and 469 are still the same ones in the current Shield and M&P pistols.

Here is my Shield 2.0 9mm sitting on top of the 469. The top of the slides and the backstrap are aligned.

Note just how closely everything aligns including the distance to the trigger and even the curvature of the triggers. There is only about 4 ounces difference in weight between the all metal 469 with it's 15 + 1 rounds and the Shield 2.0 9mm with both magazines loaded.

The 469 design has definitely withstood the test of time. And you can change out the grip panels.

Traded for it today, and when I say I don't have much in it, I really don't have much in it. Which is great, because the finish has been removed entirely from the slide except for the area rearward of the slide serrations. It's a little on the rough side, but solid and the trigger isn't nearly as bad as I'd expected. Pretty sure that screw on the ambi decocker is NOT OEM....

Congrats.

Wish I had trades like yours coming my way ... As for the worn finish, it's "character"! 😁

And perhaps better than OEM? ;)

My kid seems convinced this one's going to be his. He shot my DW Guardian and handled it fine, so he thinks that means he needs something bigger than .22 now. If I can get home before dark I may just let him see how he does shooting DA only.

It is actually possible to cock the hammer manually for a SA 1st shot, you just gotta raise the hammer to the first (half-cock) notch first, then grab the serrations on top of the hammer with your thumb.
Some folks went so far as to switch out the hammer for one with a full spur, its a drop-in swap.
AFAIK, they never made a 2nd Gen DAO variant, but there were quiie a few once they got to the 3rd Gen. Those usually had a bobbed and rounded hammer and no external safety lever on either side.

I've got to do some digging around this weekend. Have (or had) a nice leather IWB holster somewhere that I'm near positive was for the 469 that I used with the Sig p228 I had previously.
