Want to put some sights on my Kahr PM9.....which is better and why?

Trijicon night sights

Novak Sight, Tritium Dot

Meprolight Sights

or if for just daylight the HiViz

I find Meprolights to be entirely satisfactory. I have no experience with Trijicons but they appear very similar. Novaks, in my experience, are not very bright, do not have white outlines around the dots for daytime use, and the wedge shape, while it does have a streamlined appearance, serves no other purpose. In fact, if you need to hook the sight on your belt to rack the slide in an emergency, the design precludes it.

I have Meprolights on 2 Glocks and a Kimber. A plastic film covers the white circles which maintain the sights for shooting in better light. Trijicons don't have that film so they can fade sooner or get grease caught up in it.

Fiber optics are nice but they can crack easily if the gun is dropped. The front sight can get snagged with clothing.

I looked at a number of different options. For me, I really like the XS sight system with the big dot up front and the v notch in the back. There is only one tritium in front and one in back so there is no chance for misalignment. It did take some getting used to in order to feel confident with it.

I really like my Mepros, the dots look better to me, especially in the daytime.

Did you install those yourself of a smith?

My Springfield "Loaded" came with Trijicons, and I can find no fault with them as 3-dot sights go. They are very visible even in environments that are merely somewhat dark - it doesn't have to be pitch-black for them to stand out. I need to replace the factory rifle sights on the slug barrel for my 870, and I'd consider Trijicons a good choice when I do.

This is true of my Meprolights as well. It is a common misconception that night sights only work in pitch blackness.

I resisted night sights for a while, as all of 'em I looked at seemed not to be as sharp/easy to acquire in daylight-I chose not to trade off daylight efficiency for the night sights.
Then one day at the shop I was playing around with some Trijicons and found they really didn't seem to lose much/any daytime efficiency-I don't know if they changed since I last checked 'em out, or maybe my eyes are changing?

Anywho-a little research found the Trijicon front sight is bigger/brighter than the rears (don't know if this has always been the case), and at night my eye is naturally drawn to the front sight, so I forgot 'bout getting different color rears (went all green). Whether it's because the front sight is bigger/brighter, or my eyes have changed I couldn't say, but something's different than from a few years back. I also don't know if the white ring around the sights has always been on the Trijicons?

From the ones I've played around with, the Trijicons always seemed to be a little sharper than most.

YMMV?

I think this is the case with Meprolight as well.
In retrospect, just get whichever one is cheaper, they are both top tier products and I doubt you can find any real evidence one is better than the other
