The relief cut was to prevent cracking, IIRC. Bending is still a thing even with a cut rod.
The Prvi Partizan Garand ammo is good stuff, I got lucky and found 400 rounds at a show just before Coronapocalypse. Too bad the American Eagle Garand ammo has been so hard to find lately. Wish I had bought up all they had at Walmat back in the day.
