I have the 336 in 44 mag and it does just fine. Granted I dont use cast bullets to keep away from jams. In fact it shot the 240's a lil better than the 1894, so i sold the 1894 and the 336 sits on its throne of leverguns for me. I have both the 357 and 44 mag (and quite a bit more) and think the 357 is capeable of taking deer; but why take the chance? I have williams peep sights on that rifle (the 357) and I'm quite impressed.

I've got a marlin lever gun in .44 mag, its my favorite rifle so far. Dead accurate too. I need a nice 5" S&W to go with it

Recoil from my Marlin 1894 is, in a word, non-existant. I have fired it off-hand,from the hip,one handed (arm extended) etc. Recoil is not a factor with the .44 Remington magnum.
