Looking for a .22 for some plinking with my Son and Grandson. Have decided on a 10-22, mostly because that's what they both shoot. Anyway, I'm trying to decide between one of the two "tactical" models they have. One is about $200 less than the other. More expensive one has a different stock and a bull barrel. What I don't know is if the less expensive of the two has the better barrel and trigger pull as compared to the lesser models of 10-22. If so, I'll get it and a red dot scope since I have some vision issues. Hope this makes sense. Thanks for your help.

Which two are you looking at? Does one have a bull barrel and the other have a sporter barrel with a Mini-14 style flash hider?

which one

Yes, sorry....don't have model # in front of me. But what you described are the two choices.

I'd get the cheaper one and put the extra $200 into parts later if you decide you want them. A better trigger can be obtained with a different hammer ( http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=163143 ) stocks are all over the place as far as options go, and the bull barrel, well, they're mostly just heavy. If you're shooting bulk ammo offhand with a red dot, I seriously doubt you will be able to tell an accuracy difference between the factory barrels.

I would check some pawn shops or the classifieds, they can be had used for about a $100 bucks and there are many upgrades and accessories you can add later. One of my favorite 10/22's has a Butler Creek folding stock, its light, compact and some day I may cut the barrel down to 16.25" and thread it for a silencer. They are terrific pest eliminators.
