Which of the two would you choose and why?

I've never owned a Glock because I don't like them... uncomfortable. Sorry, but I'm just not a Glock fan.

I did own a LC9 and loved it... tiny, easy to shoot and plenty accurate. I like the manual safety which is well-designed being easy to disengage but more difficult to accidentally engage. I did disable the mag safety while I had it though.

I've decided against the Glock. Not because I think the Ruger is better, but only because of the reason I want to buy now. And that is to get a compact EDC carry. The Ruger is a lot easier to carry and will print less, so therefore the Glock is out. I have given this a lot of thought.

But yesterday in my LGS I held a Taurus PT709 Slim. Now I have only read good things about it after I came back at home. It is just as small as the LC9. Carries the same rounds, but its got features the LC9 don't have. Like for instance it has a SA/DA trigger.
That means in my hands it will be more accurate than the LC9. That is a big plus for me. I do want accuracy, especially in a small compact pistol. It's got fully adjustable sights. That is a big plus.
But here comes the problem. In my country, South Africa, there is no love for a Taurus. Our local Gun Forum is sometimes called the ''Taurus Bashing Forum'', so bad is it.
But here and elsewhere I only read good things about it. Everyone who shot with it and the LC9 prefers the Taurus, and everyone gets better groups with it than with the LC9. That will be mostly because the trigger is so much better.

What is your opinion about the PT709 slim and how dependable is it as a EDC?

Can you get your hands on a Shield?
Yes, but only if I will be willing to wait as my name will be put on a waiting list.
Very few were received here and allready given to owners who was on the waiting list.
I am rather in a hurry as I sold my SD gun. So I do need to get one ASAP. The Shield would have been my first choice.

I'd read up on that DA/SA trigger, if I remember correctly it is not like the old school DA/SA trigger on an exposed hammer pistol. On the Taurus the gun is half-cocked into "SA" when the slide is racked to chamber a cartridge, but the "DA" is there for a second strike in the case of a misfire. Meaning, the SA isn't really a light, short travel trigger like on a 1911 SA pistol. Although, restrike capability in a self defense pistol is a good thing, IMO.

Anyway, I'd read up more on the Taurus in general. I have two in the form of an 85UL revolver and a TCP 732. Both needed work on my part to make functional for self defense. I know other Taurus owners have had flawless guns, but the two I own were not ready for carry duty without me fixing some problems. I could have sent them back to Taurus, but I'm a "fix it myself" kind of guy.

I imagine sending a gun to Taurus from South Africa for warranty work would take longer than someone here in the US since Taurus has a US manufacturing and importing location in Miami, Florida.
