I have finally found some shotguns and am gonna get one of them. Just need a nudge toward the best deal for the money. I found a Maverick 88 for $220 out the door, Hatsan Slugger smooth bore for $175 out the door, Winchester SXP for $230 out the door and the same Winchester but in all brown finish for $280 out the door. All guns are 18.5 inch barrels, Thanks for any help

Maverick. I am biased towards Mossberg 500 type shotguns though.

The Hatsan Slugger does look interesting though. Hickok has a video of it that I am going to watch.

If you're already considering 280 for the Winchester I would advise you look at pawnshops or used gun racks at the LGS and get yourself an honest moss 500 or if you can an older Remington 870, if you're dead set on new, the 88 is a winner, I have heard good things about the SXP but I'm biased against Turkey as a country.

Ok, thought I would update. I still hadn't decided then a friend came by and talked me into a new route. He just bought a Maverick 88 18.5 and put 10 shots through it of slugs and it is accurate. He said he decided he wants a 590 because he said he wants to starts doing shotgun shoots around and even tho the Maverick shot good he would feel better with a 590. I figured since he gave $250 that he would at least want close to that for it but he really shocked me with the price. He said he would take $150 for it and its only been shot 10 times, only scratch on it is a small one less than an inch long about an inch from the barrel end where he banged it by accident on the car door getting it out. So I told him sold and I paid him $150, what do you guys think? I think I did good. Thanks

The 88 is a great budget shotgun but so it the Hatsan (Escort) Slugger, I own a Slugger and I'm considering the 88 or the 500. No, the Escort is not a shotgun made in a ditch by some Turkish kids it's made in a modern factory and has been around for quite sometime and has a large presence here in the US and the world with a 5 year warranty. I added that because I guarantee someone will pop in with a "warning" about buying "cheap, unknown" Turkish firearms, just realize they have absolutely no idea of what they're talking about and are just regurgitating something they heard and chose to believe without investigating further........

For that price you did great!
If you decide you don't like it I'll take it off your hands for that price. ;)

Well another update, I know he is a true friend giving me the deal he did, I also trusted him and paid him before seeing the gun. So he brings the gun to me and right away a problem sort of that I will tell in a few. The gun looks brand new but of course only 10 rounds thru it, the scratch isn't there it was some white paint from his car door, not a single scratch on the gun. The receiver is the nicest inside with no scratches or small gouges you see sometimes. Now the sort of problem but not really, he said it was 18.5 barrel, it is not, it is a 20" barrel. So I gave $150 for a like new 20" barrel Maverick 88, I have to say that it is the nicest Maverick I have ever seen not a scratch no where, even the barrel end is nice and smooth with no roughness. So I will have to say i am more excited than I thought I would be. Thanks
