Hi All,
I have a Winchester SXP Defender. About 3.5 years old. Have only put maybe 20 or so shells through it.
Bought a 28" barrel for it. Out at the range had the first shot go bang and be a bit difficult to pump and clear the shell. Loaded another and shot just fine but would not allow me to clear no matter what I or the RSO did.
Brought it home dropped the trigger group, managed to finally get the stock and barrel off but the bolt and innards came with the barrel. Had to disassemble and finally got the shell case out after wiggling the bolt (less the firing pin and other stuff!)
Felt and looked almost like the bolt locked into the lugs of the barrel or the extractor/case lips hung on the edges.
So anyone have any ideas? Should I just send it into Winchester/Browning for service? Should I switch back to the 18.5 barrel and see? Should I try firing 50-100 more through and see if breaking it in a bit more smooths everything out?
Shoudl I just sell the thing and look for another? I got the 26" barrel so I could go pheasant hunting this fall. This shotgun is a backup for home defense have another 20 ga I prefer to the SXP now.
Will be interested in feedback and opinions as well. This was one of the first firearms I purchased before I had found this forum and knew more about firearms in general.
