I have a Springfield X dm45. I shoot the gun very well. But, I've got the itch for an FNH FNX 45, not the tactical. I'm looking for opinions on the fn compared to the xd m.

To me, it really comes down to personal preference: Do you prefer the simplicity of a striker-fired gun like the Xdm, or the DA/SA trigger and the safety/decocker of the FNX?

A friend has both. He really likes the XD with the custom barrel he has in it, couldn't reliably make 6" 25yd groups with the factory barrel. Loves his FN. So does his wife - they own two of them, for some reason or other. :D

I've shot both models, and they're nice, but neither does much for me personally.

I use the FNX-45 as a house pistol because of the ambidextrous controls. My wife is a lefty and that gives up a pistol that works for both of us. Plus 15+1 of 45acp!!!

I highly suggest you dry fire one. I have big hands and used to own an FNP45. The tip of my trigger finger would get smacked by that big magazine release with every shot. It got annoying. It was a very accurate gun though.

I switched to an HK45 and am much happier. If FN makes an FNS45, I may give it a go.

I've owned an FNP in .45 ACP for several years now. It's a Duty sized gun, with the weight and heft of a Duty Gun. That said, it's soft shooting, and extremely accurate. Just about everyone who's hands fit it were quite taken by it's performance.

The XD is the XD. I have never found them to be "special" in either looks or feel. They are, however, accurate and reliable. My friend owns one, and we shoot each others guns regularly.

Handle the guns, see how they feel. Try to shoot them BEFORE purchasing anything.

Dump both and get a CZ 97 if you need a .45ACP. But if you need a polymer pistol with a bigger caliber then a 9mm, then a P-09 in .40 S&W. :D

The trigger is very good SA and DA. Soft shooting and accurate. I liked mine, a similar but not identical FNP 45, but I did trade it in on an HK.

Love the FNH line. Have an FNX-9 and and FNS-40. An FNX-45 is on my short list for sure.

I prefer the XD. I don't care for DA/SA pistols. I have a HK USP Compact 45. It's really a nice gun, reliable and accurate but, I always shoot in the SA mode. Just don't care for the transition from DA to SA.
