Ok my wife just bought a Kel Tec PF-9 and I have found that it is almost perfect for me to pocket carry. Now I want one but, its grip is just a little to small. I'm a 6' 215lb male with large hands. Now for those of you have gone through this before what did you settle upon? I was thinking a small framed revolver with Hogue grips but I would prefer a semi-auto because my wife hates revolvers and I want her to at least be able to use it. So any suggestions?

Try a Kahr CW9. It and a PF9 are almost the same size yet the grip on a CW9 is longer affording a full grip.

To get a bigger grip you may have to get a bigger pistol which defeats the pocket carry. I use to carry a LCP .380 then gave it to my wife when she got her CCP. Im 6' 2" with fairly big hands and after comparing lots of small pocket pistols i went with the Diamondback DB9 and have no regrets.

It's a little snappy which can be expected from a small 9mm but it's in no way uncomfortable to shoot. It holds very well for me and shoots great. I've put four different types of ammo through it so far (150rds) and it hasn't missed a beat. I've been shooting it from 12' out to 20' and it's very accurate for such a small pistol. It conceals very well IWB, OWB, SOB and in the pocket with no problems. My wife also shoots this pistol with no problems.

You have to carry a gun you like or you won't practice with it. I carry a J frame daily and feel it's a good choice.

Question, if you hated her 9mm semi-auto would she stop carrying it? I think not so why should you carry a semi-auto because she likes them? As for her being able to use it, in an emergency I'm sure she will pull the trigger without thinking how much she doesn't like revolvers.

Live and let live. She has the handgun she likes and you should buy the one you like.

I tend to agree with Archangel, here. Do you want to get one that she will want to shoot just to increase your "stable" of guns? I can understand that to some extent but your carry weapon is very personal; it is all about you.

He has all of the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire. Winston Churchill

Reminds me of a story about Churchill. He was at some sort of dinner. There was a beautiful woman seated next to him. He asked her if she would have sex with him for 50,000 Pounds (British money). She said yes. He then asked her if she would do it for 20 Pounds. She said no and asked Churchill what kind of girl he thought she was. He replied, "We have already settled that. Now we are just dickering over price!"

I carry my LC9 which is good, subcompact 9mm. Decent sights, good accuracy and complete reliability for the past 550 rounds. I fire 115gr and 124gr bullets mostly with it and carry Hydro Shok for SD. With the flat magazine floor plate the gun will fit in a pocket holster nicely. When I have it in my paddle holster or the IWB I put the magazine with the finger extenstion on it. The pistol is comfortable in the hand, recoil is easy on the hand. It's DAO hammer fired so you can safely carry it with one in the chamber.

Another option is the Taurus 709 or 740 Slim. Almost the same size as the PF9 and much better quality/look than the Pf9.

I bought a new Pf9 and carried it for 2months, but it had its FTE's and double feeds. sold it for the 709/740 (i have both) and they have no failures at all. The ext thumb safety is also a big plus if you carry without a holster for those quick trips.

+1 to this. A carry gun is a personal choice. You have to get what you like and are comfortable with. She has her gun. This isn't like buying a new car that you both will use.

I want her to be comfortable with it because in all honesty she would probably carry it more than I would. I already carry daily and carry for my job. I just want something smaller for when I go trail running with the dogs, as rattlesnakes, copperheads, and water moccasins are bad around me and I don’t want my wife, my dogs, or me getting bitten.

So for a running gun, not a gun for daily pocket carry, what would you recommend?

For a running gun, I am assuming jogging? That being the case, the lighter the better in my book. Ruger LCP, maybe a S&W 340PD or, going out on a limb a J Frame in 22mag or long rifle to keep the weight down.

Did you look at the Mouse Gun Chart???

I love pocket pistols.
I have boney fingers though..can usually fit two fingers on guns others can only fit one on.

but when you're bigger, so are your pockets.
I know about that phenomenon
I also know that just because it will fit in a pocket doesn't mean that my (larger) Sasquatch hand gripped into a fist will be able to extract the gun easily, a shorter grip helps there.

You can also learn to shoot just fine without a pinky on the grip, that last finger is mostly a placebo, anyway.

Pocket carry and revolvers don't really, work. I'm your size, same problem. I have a 360PD, and sometimes, depending upon what I'm wearing, it works for pocket carry. Other times even my cut down, chopped and sanded grip sticks out of my pocket. It is, however the only gun I have that weighs little enough to be comfortable for pocket carry. I would say 15 oz and under is pocket carry stuff. I suspect, with pocket grips, there is some .38 Special
lightweight that would be accurate, shootable, and pretty light.

Now, the problem is with big hands, you have to compromise fire power for
accuracy. With small grips, big hands, you need a gun that with you shooting it, makes you a good shot. My 360PD is COM accuracy at 7 yards.
The PM9 is head shot accuracy at that range.
If I put a big hogue mono-grip on the 360PD, I can shoot it as well as the PM9, but, it makes it a holster gun, not a pocket carry gun.
So, to answer your question:

My choices are
Beretta 950 in either .22 short or .22lr
Kahr PM 9
S&@ 340 or 360PD
Detonics Combatmaster

;)Try a Sig.238 & get colt 7rd. Mag.s for the Govt. or mustang +. They fit &function fine & stick down so you can get a extra finger around it. If that don't work try the Kahr PM9.GOOD LUCK HAVE FUN, STAY SAFE!

Ok first of all thanks for all the advise. Second I think I'll try the grip sleeve first, if I like it I will buy my own PF-9, if not no big waste of money.
