I have used the following with not issues. I have only loaded the 55grn pull down FMJs and a few 55grn Winchester PP. All of the first three meetered well through my 550B. I used the 3031 back in the early 80s while useing a single stage press. The stick type powder would get cut by the powder droper I was using (RCBS) and gave some in consistant weights, so I would never use stick type powder again. With the AA powder you can use standard small rifle primers. The others all requier small rifle magnum primers, so that might influance your choise by what primers you can get.

WC846 (Surplus pull dowon powder from Hi-Tech)
AA2230
IMR 3031 (Never again)

I've been using Varget for .223 (and I've been very happy with the accuracy) but it really isn't a great metering powder. Based on the replies on this thread I picked up a pound of TAC. I'll shoot some tomorrow but dang, it really goes through the meter great.

Which Powder for .223 pliking

VN140 works for me with the 69 Nosler and a 8" twist but the 12" twist likes Benchmark with the 55 Nosler.

I use Varget for my hunting ammo but for practice and plinking I also use H335 with a 55gr bullet.
I am not familiar with it. Currently the only rifle powder I use is BL-C(2) for .308. I will look into it.
Here's how I look at it, H335 is like the little brother of BL-C(2). IMO H335 is better for the smaller NATO round and BL-C(2) is better for the larger NATO round. Both powders are Ball Powder and meter extremely well.

As said already WC844 is the none canister version of H335.
I'll add WC846 is the none canister version of BL-C(2).

If you can find each in bulk, load up and you're set for both NATO rounds for a good long while. If you want to buy only one of the two powders and reload both the 5.56mm and 7.62mm rounds I would buy WC846/BL-C(2).

Love TAC! I have used Benchmark, Varget and Accurate 2230 and TAC is my favorite!

What do you know it's on sale right now but, I need my case feeder first!:banghead::cuss:

i really like h322 for all my 223 loads for several reasons.

it is capable of great accuracy (sub moa)

its cut fairly short so it meters well (not as short as benchmark, but way shorter than varget or 4895)

and every 5th to 6th round is a "powder freeby" due to the fact that you can load 21gns with a 55g bullet, as opposed to 26gns with many others like varget.

its my favorite 223 powder after trying a dozen or so.

i still keep and use varget, benchmark, blc, 335, 4895, and a few others though.

I have been happy with TAC in my 223. Once I start loading for my .308 I can let you know how that goes.

I use both H335 and A2230 with 55gr Hornaday bulk with pretty good results. Actually, I really haven't seen much difference in accuracy between the two. Both give me good groups with the AR.
