I'm reloading .22-250 Remington to be shot out of a Savage with a 1 in 12 Stainless barrel. I load 55 grain bullets for this rifle. Powders that work well are IMR 4064, Reloder 15, Varget, and Big Game. I have some IMR 4007ssc but have not tried it yet. Which of these powders loaded near max would burn a barrel out fastest? What about slowest? Are double based powders harder on barrels? Any insight is appreciated.

It will not really matter, the cartridge is sort of over bore to begin with. The key is to not get the bbl so hot, and keep it hot. Let it cool down. And, the bbl life is not that great......if you treat it good the bbl will last for a while. Plus you can always get the gun rebarreled for a decent price. E. A. Brown Co of Alexandria, MN has a great deal on installed bbls!

I have just used IMR 4198, IMR 4895 and Varget in my 22-250, I get best results with varget and it seems like it burns a little cooler, I can actually notice the barrel heating up slower with varget than the other powders....
