Let me put it this way. An AR-15 is nice when you're exchanging fire with an enemy advancing up a hill 400 yards away. You'll appreciate the accuracy. If you get a jam, you duck down, clear it, and get back in the action.

But if you're clearing trenches and storming bunkers, you'll want an AK-47. If your weapon jams, you're dead.

This is why Hezbollah uses both M-16's and AK-47's and they gave the IDF a beating on the ground. They also had long-range guided anti-tank missiles to deny the IDF its armored support.

Only problem is the .223 round isn't very effective at that range. Unless you just want to annoy the enemy.

I think you might do a bit more than just annoy them.

But it doesn't really matter, because if he is going to be killing anyone at 400 yards, I dont think we should be helping him pick out a rifle :D

I would chose an AK because it suits my tactics for the use of an assault rifle. I'm no "internet sniper" so I'm not going to try and claim 1moa at 400 yards. If my enemy is that far away then I am going to break off the engagement or use the distance to flank to a better position. If the distance is closer then I am going to lay down heavy suppressing fire and flank to my advantage. In that case I don't want a jam, I want reliability over accuracy. From what Nomad 2nd. has posted about his experience in the Contractor courses in the Strategies and Tactics section I'll go with an AK.

I picked the AR because it has the most flexability. Yes for some uses a heavier caliber will fit the bill better but the AR can so easily be configgured to do so many things for so many different folks.

From that list? AR-15. Excellent rifle that is configurable in a number of ways for a number of calibers. Depends on what your needs are.

For an all out "battle rifle", gimme an M14 or an M1A Garand. It'll kill at 800 yards and still be a hi-cap mag fed platform for "up close/spray and pray" scenarios.

I chose the mini, The AR's just are not for me.
I like FAL, FN-49, M14, Garands, and 1903's better than any choice listed, possibly a FN-49 in 7mm Mauser bestes. OH yeah, there is one in the safe.
I really like all of the weapons listed, just for my rough and ready gun the mini is first choice.
I'd LOVE to see the mini FACTORY chambered in a grendel 6.5x39. 120gr bullet around 2600fps, small carbine, and a stock that would work with heavy clothes.

Ar-15 because it accurate, reliable, and MIA(made in America) I also like my M-1 although not as handy.

I picked AR. I never owned, shot, or held any of those other rifles. I love the platform and options, light weight, and cheaper(can't call it cheap anymore) ammo... Tons of fun! Bushmaster XM-15 flat top with red dot and 30 rd mags.
