I picked the AR 15, but it is just my choice of the weapons offered. Truth be told I would rather have one of the G3 platform rifles. just like em thats all.

It really depends on what it's for.

If it's supposed to be a survival weapon and nothing else, Ill take the AK.

If it's supposed to be for a range toy / hunting / home defense, I might take the AR-15.

I've got both and neither has ever failed me. I trust the AK more, but the AR is much more pleasant to shoot.

AK-47 clone/platform. Inexpensive, highly reliable, (from clean to dirty to plucked out of mud reliable) and upgrades/mods available.

TO ADD: I owned two Colt AR's for many years (an AR-15 and a CAR) so I'm quite familiar with those too and this is figured into my choice.

AR-15. Always wanted one just 'cuz. Also I could buy it piece by piece and spread the purchase price over time. It was fun to assemble and it's been a pleasure to shoot.

I don't know what kind of AK's those that don't like them have fired, but I have no problem getting a decent grouping (at least in the 9 ring) at 100yds with mine albeit it's a milled receiver version. But I chose AK over the other options primarily because of caliber, secondly because of the platform. I like the handiness of the mini's, but hi-caps are not as reliable with them as they are with the AK and the AK is as tough as all beat h*ll.

Go with the AR15 - you can buy one lower where you have to go through an FFL then you can buy uppers in different calibers through the mail all day long!!!

Depends on the circumstance. It the so-called SHTF, it's one thing, a trip to the range, another. BTW, I don't think the S*** is ever going to hit the fan, to the point of having to load out a weapon, gear and hit it.

That said,

I own a mini-14, a BM XM-15 and a WASR-10. If I had to take one into harms way, it'll be the AK without a second thought about it. I might not have the most opportune time to scrape carbon out of the bolt and receiver on the AR and I don't carry 18" pipe cleaners and spare pins and springs in my pocket...

My mini-14 may well be my next choice. Ultra-reliable rifle and accurate enough.

I do like the Bushmaster for the range.

Reliable, accurate, and versatile.

After messing with them for 26 years I believe the "reliability" issues with them are way overstated. Get a good one, keep it lubed properly and it will run.
