Which scope for my 10-22 rifle?

I cant decide what kind of scope to put on my 10-22 Ruger. It is stainless and and has a wood stock. I really dont use this rifle much. I think if I put a scope on it i would use it much more. I looked at the BSA sweet 22 I believe its called, but I really am not fond of BSA. I had one of there scopes fall apart on me. Thanks for any input. Probably would shoot it some at the range and use it for squirrells and small critters. Thanks

Nikon 4x32 Prostaff. They run about $110 at Natchez Shooter Supply, and they're worth every cent.

You could mount an NCstar scope for cheap. I have both that and a BSA Sweet 22 and they seem to work perfectly.

If you ask this question over at rimfirecentral.com, chances are the most recommended scope will be the Mueller APV. It's a great scope for the money. Another good option is the Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn. Whatever you do, though, make sure you buy a scope with an adjustable objective. Very important on a .22 you want to shoot accurately.

How much do you want to spend? What kind of shooting are ya gonna do? At what distance? A decent cheap scope is the simmons .22 mag 3-9X32 AO at about $60. If you want a IMO $300 scope for $114 go with the Meuller APV mentioned above. Both come in silver to match your stainless rifle. If you're gonna use it mainly for plinking a set of peep sights or a red dot makes for lots of fun.

Im gonna mostly use the gun for plinking/hunting. I will take a look at some of the scopes mentioned above. Price wise I would like to stay under $200 I guess. Thanks

I put a Leupold M8 4x on mine and my wife's. got them off e-bay. Usually find them under $150 or so

New ones: BSA Sweet 22 3-9x40 A/O. It is now number 1 for 22LR. There is turrets for BDC with 36-. 38- and 40gr bullets.

For around $200 The 2x7 Leupold Rifleman from Walmart would be a good choice. A Nikon Prostaff at around $150 would be a good choice as well. I think the 2x7 is a good compromise on this size rifle.

If you are into the go-fast gear at all I have a suggestion:

A millet red dot. My 10-22s run them. It's a 1X 5MOA red dot set up with 11 brightness settings. Will it put them all in one hole at 25 yards? Not quite, as the dots a little too big for that much precision.

BUT: Anything the size of a soda/beer can I OWN out to 100 yards.

My plinking/hunting 10/22 is set up with an el-cheapo sight mark holographic red dot from sportsmans guide. Best $40 I ever spent. Very fast target acquisition for when you come up on a group of tree rats and a nice small dot that don't cover the target. You really don't need a scope on a .22 unless you are trying to put tiny holes in paper or you have bad eyes.

For $100, I put a Simmonds Pro Hunter 3 X 9 on my 10-22. I use Leuopold for my other weapons, and a couple Nikons, but with the minimal recoil of the 10-22, the Simmonds should last a lifetime. Bright and accurate.

I have a Weaver 2x7 rimfire scope on my 10/22 and really like it. Very good, made for a .22 (proper parallex) and in your price range.

Check out the Sightron 3-9X rimfire S-1. They can be found on special nowadays for something right around $100.00 before S&H. I've got one on a 10/22 & it's just fine.

If you want more magnification, the Simmons 6-24X also seems to be on special several places & also in the same ballpark price-wise. However, for me, that'd be either on a specific purpose gun or not bought. The 3-9X is far more useful for general all-round use.

I've seen bone-stock 10/22's perform very well indeed. I always advise anyone contemplating a barrel swap on a new 10/22 to do the ammo testing first. Given the right fodder, I have seen stock 10/22's make some very nice, and repeatable, shots in the gopher shooting fields of Montana.

That's not to say every 10/22 gets a good barrel, but it's not out of the question either. And, every .22 is picky about ammo. Don't feed yours what it likes & yes sir, accuracy might just be in the toilet. But, do the range work & find what it wants, and that crappy 10/22 just might turn into a sweet little shooter.
