I have two problems to solve.

1. After hunting with Ruger Frontier 308 with a scout scope, I have decided to equip it with a conventionally mounted scope for the next go around. My primary problem with the scout scope was the poor low light performance (that is, it is much more difficult for me to see into heavily shaded brush and under mesquite and juniper bushes on a bright West Texas day.

2, The individual who sporterized my SMLE No. 4 Mk. 1 replaced the military sight with a ramp with a bead. The bead he used was far too short. After replacing this with the tallest beak I had on hand, the bead is still a bit short and I discovered that he had mounted the ramp at a slight angle to the vertical. To get the windage close, I had to drift the front sight far to the right. I have decided that perhaps my best approach is to scope the rifle. To that end, I acquired an S&K mount with the S&K rings.

I have four scopes on hand to choose from for these two applications:

a. Redfield 3-9 x 40 with the Accurange reticule.
b. Bushnell 3200 3-9 x 40 (Short action version)
c. Redfield 2-7 x 33 with Accurange reticule
d. Burris 2-7 x 35 Fullfield E1

The Redfields have fairly long eye relief and I have been pleased with the 4-12 x 40's on a couple of other rifles. The Burris hase an interesting reticule for compensating for wind drift. The Bushnell is the first Bushnell I have purchased in a long, long time after having bad luck with one back in the 80's.

So: Which scope should I use for which rifle.

My only suggestion would be A or B for rifle 1, 40 should be better for the light.
