Which state will go Vermont Carry next? (no permit req'd) -- 2006 wrap-up

I've posted this thread before, but I think this one is worth starting a new thread for anually.

Vermont has always been "Vermont Carry", no permit required to carry concealed, provided you weren't causing any trouble.

Alaska joined the club a couple years back.

In the last thread like this, about a year ago, there were rumors that Montana, Utah, Dakota, and New Hampshire were mulling such a move.

Any updates from denizens of those states? Any local .org working on the issue that THR members nationwide should donate $5 to?

I don't know much about Wyoming's laws, but i think that NH will be next.

We already have permit-less carry and open carry, with exceptions. The application process is very simple and the fee is only $10, so I would guess that the state isn't getting revenue from the permits.

Montana has quasi-vermont carry as it is. It's only a small step away from VC.

Fly 320, if you think NH is next, think again. Lynch vetoed the self defense bill, and there weren't enough votes to force it on him. If you think our new Democrat masters in the NH House and Senate will allow the plebes to carry arms without some form of government permission, you're seriously wrong.

I would actually not be very surprised to see carry laws here become MORE restrictive, or at the very least more expensive.

CCW permit fees are a source of 'unearmarked' revenue for county sheriffs in AL. I wouldn't expect AL to go to "Vermont" laws for that very reason. Even tho' we're a "May Issue" state, I don't know of ANYONE who's ever been turned down, and there's no training requirement.

Personaly, I believe that guns laws in most states are going to become regressive. States will probably make it more restrictive to get a CCW, than to loosen the laws.

There was a bill to do such a thing in the last session of the Montana House of Representatives, but it died somewhere along the way

I don't know if it will come up again in 2007, but the Republicans did squeak a majority of the House this time. I asked my state senator about it a few months ago (in person at a local forum) and he had not even heard of the previous bill.

zahc is right - we already have "Vermont Carry" in about 98% of Montana (basically anywhere outside city limits). Actually, I think one could justify legal CCW without a permit while "hiking... or other outdoor activity" in a city park, as the exceptions are all listed with or (not and)

Also carry in fanny pack or purse, etc should also be currently legal, since they are not "clothing"

Well. At least there's an awful lot of Mexican carry there, especially in Boston. All illegal, usually gangbangers, but it's "carry", right?

I think if more states go VC carry. And they dont have poeple shooting each other 24/7. Then other states will have a harder time saying they need more gun control, while there neighboring states have less gun laws.
