You'll need more than a 1/12 twist to stabilize a 77 grain bullet. 1 in 9 most likely.
I'd go with the 22-250. Just yote shooting should not effect barrel life. I'd go with a Savage as they rifle their barrels 1 in 12. Gives you a lot of latitude when selecting bullets. Remington and Ruger use a 1 in 14.
You'll like the range the 22-250 gives you, especially on those that won't come in.

Im in the process of buying a varmint rifle and after reading all these opinons, i think im going to read into it a little more, you people who have been into it awhile give some of us alot to think about , thanks. hell probably end up owning several of each anyway

I have varmint rifles and predator rifles...

To me they are two different things. My varmint rifles are heavy, long bbl type of rifles. They are generally used for stationary shooting at small targets/long distance. My predator rifles tend to be medium weight rifles that are easier to carry over long distances. I like the .223 and the .22-250. I am going to get a Remington Model Seven Predator in .204 very soon. I don't have much experience with the .204 yet, but it impressed me on a recent pasture poodle hunt and I received good reports back for TX on its' performance. My buddy with the .204 calls me often to give field reports.

I would go with a good medium weight bolt action. I like the AR, but hate brass flying all over the place. I kind of wish someone made a quality bolt action AR. You would have a supremely accurate rifle and could control the brass. I would pick the .223 just because it is pretty cheap to shoot and easy to reload.

you can get a ar in 204, and with it's far superior ballistics, less recoil, and less bbl burn, the 204 has better reach than a 223, and almost up with the 22.250., but of course , less kick and less bbl burn.
however , ammo is expensive, and 223 is the least dough, but if you reload, the 204 is breezy.

I've shot my buddy's 204. It doesn't drift any more than a 22-250 according to the numbers, and it is a truly amazing round. I understand that handloaders don't have access to the powder blend that Hornady is using, and so can't quite achieve the velocities that you can get with factory ammo.

I know my next varmint rifle will be the 204.

Another 6000 round to go through my 223 before I can justify that!

And some guys like the heavy barrel rifles. That's ok for them, but for myself I prefer the lighter rifles. Just easier to carry. These days I'm using a CZ 527 LUX and it is a fine choice.

I have an AR and shoot it at steel to 500, but there's no way I would pay all that extra money for one for coyotes. Get a bolt for half the cost. Killing varmints ain't rocket science.

I love my Remington VLS in 22-250 topped with a Leupold VXIII 6.5-20 LR scope and it is a great varmint rig but I also have a Colt H-BAR that does really well with 70 grain bullets. I say get whay you prefer.
