which would you buy? A new Model 70 featherweight classic or a Kimber?

that one....in that chambering!
I really want a Featherweight in a 6.5mm (pretty much any 6.5mm), but I think I may settle for second best and get the 7mm-08 instead. Who am I kidding, I will probably be unable to tell the difference.

:)

I had just looked at a new FN model 70 in 30-06 when I posted the question. After reading that they had bad wood I was a bit surprised by the one I looked at because it had pretty good wood, compared to the Remington's and Ruger's at least. It was not as nice as the Kimber's I've seen, but still not bad. I love the light weight of the Kimber's I've looked at, but I have a real hard time getting over the matte black finish. After comparing both makes side by side I can agree with Savage99 that the Kimber's safety is quieter and easier to manipulate. When I started looking at rifles I had my mind set on getting a Kimber, and was willing to wait for the new 84L's. After my last visit to the store I was beginning to lean towards the FN model 70's. I like the blued steel and the action seemed smoother. I think all the positive feedback has put me over the edge. If I decide I want nicer wood, I start $400 ahead paying for it. As for the Cooper's, beautiful rifle by the way doubleA, I am going to buy a Montana Varminter next.....once I decide what I want it chambered in that is.

DubbleA, did you use your Cooper in the rimfire match last month?

Yes I have been using a M57 and it's done ok in the past few monthly matches.

I'm right there with you. I went with the 7-08 BUT if I ever wear out my barrel its coming back as a 6.5. I doubt myself or a deer will ever know the difference.

I like the way you think...it isn't worth the cost to replace it to begin with (for me anyway), but if you need a new bbl, why not?

:)

I can't speak for the FN Win F/W. I have a push feed Winny Mdl 70 F/W in '06. This rifle carries in the field pretty easy. The rifle kicks like a wizzed off mule. But, it is my go to gun when hunting. It shoots sub MOA and has never failed me.

I also have a Ruger 77 Mk2 in '06. It doesn't shoot as well nor does it carry as well compaired to the F/W.
