Anytime I've asked for your opinions in the past, I've received great input so here goes again...
I'd like to know which of my two rifles you'd recommend for home defense. I have a pistol in my nightstand and another in my dresser across the room, but I'm also going to hang one of my rifles on the wall in my walk-in closet for quick access. The other rifle will be locked up in another room. One is a 5.56 AR with 16" barrel and the other is 300 BLK also with a 16" barrel. The 5.56 has a red dot scope and the 300 has iron sights only. Both have ACT triggers. I'll attach a light to whichever one I choose. There are other differences between them but nothing that would enter into this discussion.

I'm leaning toward the 300, but would like other's opinions and why you'd make that choice. As always, thank you in advance.

I don't think you could make a wrong choice between the two.
Butt....
Do you reload? If not, I would go with the 5.56 because there many SD ammo options that will meet your needs that are just not available in the .300
Worried about over penetration? 55gr V-max. Barriers? 77grHornady TAP. Etc, etc, etc.
I'm not aware of near as many factory offerings in the .300

Red dots are a lot easier to get a sight picture with in a dark room, flashlight or no, that would dictate my choice.
