I've narrowed it down to 2 choices:

Sig 556 or Colt 6920.

Which would you choose and why?

For me, they fall into my intended use of defense rifle in my price range.

I really like the Sig for the folding stock ability but the Colt seems to have a longer proven track record. I'm more familiar with the Colt being in the military and carrying an M4.

6920
11 years in the army, 6 years in a patrol car, 20 years in federal service all the while being issued an AR type, I am more familiar with them.

If Colt has always been your go to you should probably stick with that. Me on the other hand I'd get the Sig just because it's a little different than the cookie cutter AR. i like different.

Why the Colt?

Yes, I am familiar with that platform but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to learn the Sig 556 platform.

I think some of the Sig variations are just plain cool.
After 20 years in the army, I'm just sick and frickin' tired of looking at M16s and M4s.
Nothing wrong with them...They just bore me to death now.
I don't own one and most likely never will.

I'm with CountryUgly on this one.
I'd kinda like something "different" as well, plus, not to get into the whole DI debate thing, but the Sig won't blow a bunch of junk back into the internals either.

Because parts for the the AR grow on trees. Parts for the Sig are in the hen's teeth category.

Of the two choices, I'd get the Colt. Rifles of this type tend to get shot a LOT. Parts availability is important to me.

I love my SiG-556's bit if it can be only one, it would have to be the Colt

Reasons;
Familiarity
Accuracy
Parts availability
Re-Sale value

There is no way I would have continued to fire that thing. That looked like an accident waiting to happen.

Not from shoulder, no way. But based on what we can see, I think it's safe to assume the man firing the gun has all the PPE. I mean, it is mounted to a wall.

Anyone happen to catch the round cooking off at 2:15 in that video:what:. Closed bolts are not really meant to send that much lead, that poor AR.:(

Closed bolts are not really meant to send that much lead, that poor AR

Well, at least not at the AR's ROF. The Ma Deuce is closed bolt, but fires at half the rate an M16/M4 does, and is not generally firing 870 rounds (almost 2 minutes worth) continuously. I count 29 mags in just over 4 minutes before it starts malfunctioning.

If it were a 550 versus the Colt, then I would take the SIG. But the stock on the 556....eh, I'll pass and take the Colt.

Colt. Stick with what you know. They work, really well. And you can get parts for them, without any difficulty, if you need them. Mags are cheap, and everywhere.

If you're bored of it, then get what makes you happy. But if you're getting something as your "defense weapon", take advantage of you muscle memory and training. Get the
Colt.

Sig M400! How is that for compromise? :D

For the reasons listed above, AR parts (repair or optional "upgrades") are extremely common and user friendly. The rifle itself is very easy to use, something you already know.

The Sig is not as accurate?
I always wondered about that part.
I've never fired the Sig.
Maybe I should clarify ... the original post didn't mention if this was going to be a title 1 or title 2 gun so I was assuming a typical 556. Keep in mind this is what I'd choose for someone else ... as in the original post. My 556P/SBR is close to the same accuracy as my AR's but my 16" 556's are more like 2"-3" MOA (which is still better than I can shoot unless I'm bagged up on a bench)

Now if I had to choose 1 gun for myself, it would be my 556P/SBR because personally that list of reason's doesn't apply to me ...
--
Familiarity -
I've spent hundreds of hours with my 556P/SBR

Accuracy -
As mentioned above my 556P/SBR is close to the same as my AR's ... its about 1.25" MOA

Parts availability -
I've never heard of anyone breaking any essential parts for a 556, but I have 2 other 556's so I'm not worried about it.

Re-Sale value -
I don't see a circumstance I would ever sell my 556P/SBR

Wow.....

Now "that" is one nice looking Sig!
I don't have any real complaints about Colts either way.
I'm just tired of looking at them....lol
Your Sig is just, well, k-e-w-l!
