I love these questions
I would recommend a SIG P220
or one of the two you listed to pick from

other than that which ever fits you the best

I would recommend the FN/Browning Hi-Power or the CZ75....

Oops, I guess they wern't an option, sorry.....

Of the two you listed I'd go with the Springfield only because I've actually shot one and it seemed reasonably ergonomic, reasonably accurate and reliable.

Personally I'm a High Power fan, a pair of 40's for carrying, an Inglis with shoulder stock just because I can, and a Competition model for paper punching.

I recently picked up a CZ 40B (out of production now) and have to say I'm pretty impressed with it so far, double action, reasonably good trigger, and under $300. The CZ 75's are also excellent proven pistols for about the price you are looking at, and you can carry cocked and locked, the way Mr. Browning intended.

Go to a range that rents out guns. Try both. Buy the one you shoot best with. If you can't do that, buy the one that feels best in your hand.

1911. This should be an ansewer to any of these which gun should I pick threads. :)

On a more serious note, I think I would have to go with the XD. Although I really do not llike either gun. Out of the two I think the XD is probably better built. In this price range I would look at the 24/7. Just my .02

I'm not a fan of the 40 so it's kind of a tough decision for me. As 40's go, I'd go w/ the Beretta 96. IMO, smoothest most accurate 40 you can get your hands on. If I had to choose from your options, I'd go w/ the XD

ive recently deliberated that same question... the deciding factor for me was the fact that comp-tac does not make a holster for the sigma, but they do for the XD.... so i'm planning on going with the XD
