I'm two years older than the last time I posted on this thread! Not much else has changed!! :) Added: I'm curious, SOMEONE posted about being "30-something". I wonder if that's still operative? I know, you aren't suppose to ask! :banghead:

I'm an at-home mom who just turned 37 years old. My husband and I have five sons who are all headed into the teen years (the oldest & youngest are less than 6 years apart).

Guns? I get to play with lots of 'em, because I spend a lot of time volunteering as an Assistant Instructor at the Firearms Academy of Seattle, and because I write gun reviews for fun & profit in my spare time.

I'm 67.
Retired.
USMC Sergeant in the fifties and Army Warrant Officer helicopter pilot in the sixties.
Airplane and helicopter instructor for many years.
Flew helicopters in the Gulf of Mexico 29 years before retiring.
Wanted to get back to basic flying so now I fly a PPC (powered parachute) for the heck of it.
Been in guns since a young teenager. Hardly ever get rid of any but keep buying. I have pretty much an unlimited gun budget, which really isn't as much fun as it sounds.
My Wife of 39 years died a couple years ago, shortly after I retired. I died with her.
So now, almost every day I shoot on my home ranges , take care of our pets, fly a little and make almost every gun show.

And spend way too much time on the computer.

41 years old
USAR (Signal Corps), 1983 thru 1989 - MOS 29E
Married (twice - second time's the charm)
Three kids - 10 and 4 year old boys and 2 year old girl
Two dogs, two cats, two birds, 30 or so fish, and probably some herps on the way...
Born in Los Alamos, NM (dad's a research physicist, specializing in detonation physics) but spent most of my life in/around Wash DC. I now reside in TX and design software for DoD warfighting applications that you better hope never get used (because you probably won't like what's left over after it's all said and done)....

I'm 46 yr old dude.

Live in N.E. OK.

I live for the outdoors. Fishing and hunting are my favorite things to do. I love shooting too but paper just doesn't get me going like being in the woods does. I've been shooting since I was young boy and have had a love and respect for almost all kinds of guns every since. Thank you Dad!

I have 3 children ages 21, 15 and 8. Girl, boy, girl respectively.

I have been in sales all my life, in the banking industry mostly. It's afforded me some decent things in life but none of them are really important. The wiser I get the more I realize that happiness, respect, love, friends and children are the real treasures in life. ;)

Oh yea, I have a thing for Brownings. :D

Wow

Intersting thread....learning about my fellow high roaders is VERY interesting. Helps me understand a little more about why folks post the way they do

And, four weeks ago, we were chosen by a birth mother who is having twins, so I'll have two more sometime aruound August 1st (or before).

Income allows for reasonable collection, but lately I have been selling more than buying and trying to concentrate on using the remaining firearms very well.

Great thread girlwithagun. I have often wondered about some of my fellow posters and this has been great fun reading about other

The best you can, I guess. I think I know you from other places. You seem to be a good Man.

41 year old male, once divorced with 3 teenaged children. raised them for 7 years, but i pay their mother an ungodly sum of cash to do that for these past 2 years. engaged to a beautiful, younger chinese woman (expect to marry in august).

working as a quality auditor and welding engineer in the mining equipment industry in a world market. travel a lot in foreign countries, but the hobby keeps me connected in spirit.

most of my guns have been a really good deal, or i have built for myself from parts kits. ak 47's are the thing to do just now, but i have been known to rebuild an old double gun or pistol from time to time. gunsmithing is a hobby, as is winemaking.

I’m 57 and sort of a retired Instrumentation Technician – that is I accepted an early retirement pension 2 years ago. After retiring, I finished college, receiving a BS in Human Resources Training and Development. I would like to teach electricity/electronics as part of a vocational program, but I’ve been unable to find a job around here yet. Neither my wife nor I are willing to re-locate. So for right now, I’m a happy homemaker and a hobby farmer.
My lovely wife of 34 years works as an Administrative Assistant to the County Clerk. Most people who know her think she has a split personality. She’s a very professional lady on the job, but on her own time she loves to hunt, shoot, backpack and fly-fish. She was born and raised in Southern PRK and sometimes tells people the only reason she married me was because I was her ticket out. We met while I was in the service and stationed down in la-la land. Sorry if I sound disrespectful of any THR members who happen to live there. I’m not. I’m only disrespectful of the clowns who have turned that place into what it should not be.
We have two daughters. Our oldest is married and has 3 sons. We’ve already started them shooting tin cans with BB guns in the back yard – under very close supervision of course. They don’t know it yet, but there’s a deer rifle for each of them in the gun safe when they get older. Our youngest daughter recently became engaged. She and her future husband might have to provide their own gun safe because we’re running out of room in ours.
We sure don't fall in the "unlimited means to buy guns" category. We really couldn't even be concidered "comfortable" financially. It's just that even though we won't go in debt for a gun, my Dad has always told me he's never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul trailer. :D

Age: 33.
Employment: Software Engineer, or lackey of other Software Engineers
Other: never married, no children, one cat (good mouser, will trade for dog or gun)

Disposable income comes from line three above, and I have alot of old toys I'm unloading (anyone want $5000 in assorted camera gear? drop me a line . . .)

Had firearms around the house when growing up, but nothing more myself than a Ruger 10/22 at my parent's house that I would shoot occasionally when home. Became more interested recently, just punching paper until I get somewhere more rural. Inventory is at the bottom of the page.

Spent 27 years in Arkansas, 3 months in Mississippi, 5 years in North Carolina, and the better part of one year in Ohio (sucks). Next gig is in southeast Washington state, but will probably travel back east often. Love alot of the American south, hate the pay, stuck as a corporate slave until otherwise noted.

Love the forum, one of the most civil I've seen. Keep taking THR.

22 years old, male. Not married with no intentions of marriage in the foreseeable future. I did college my senior year in high school and it was a nice change (I hated high school). I had intentions of being an EE/ME and physics major. I had great teachers for the sciences but I happened to get stuck with the most incompatible math instructors during my stint in college.

College was also where superliberalism hit me from all angles. I'd consider myself a conservative libertarian so I have a bit from either side but some of this was too much to stomach. :barf: I did a pro-gun piece in a persuasive speech/writing class but despite not getting any logical and credible rebuttals in return to my piece, and getting a faceful of emotional arguments instead, anti’s stuck to their story. Oranges are blue.

I started getting bored/frustrated and found out the Dilbert comic wasn't an exaggeration reflecting the life of an engineer so I squeezed out of the college scene with an Associates and went into remodeling/construction which pays reasonably and quenches my tinkering gene. I’m jumping into the Army this upcoming winter or early spring for some free civilian skills, getting into shape, and serving the country since America is land of the free because of the brave. The college experience is enough to get me some monetary bonuses and rank jumps, and I am hoping that enlisting will give me enough discipline to go back and get a full degree…maybe the same, maybe a different field. Depending on how much I like it, I might go for a full 20 years and get some goodies out of it.

Firearms have been a paper hobby for a long time. I used to go shooting with the old man on occasion and it was a blast but I never owned my own. My home has been broken into on three occasions and I felt like it was time to do something about it (isn’t it funny how people tend to take action only after something has happened rather than prepare in advance?) My mother is still one of those anti-gunners and feels the ADT security system and 9-1-1 will keep her safe despite the events. If that won’t change your mind, nothing will.

With that, my firearm fascination turned into an actual hobby when I purchased my first firearm last year and the latest addition is my project AR. I’m looking forward to adding at least one revolver, semi-auto pistol, pump shotgun, precision rifle, etc to my collection and customize them all in some way with my own two hands so it’s personalized. I want to satisfy that “one of each” header and then I’ll have to see where I go from there. I also need to go to the range more often and try networking with local shooters.

Besides firearms being a hobby, I dabbled in pulsed power and high voltage (tesla coils, rail guns, etc) but downsized a large chunk of stuff I’ve collected over years on ebay. It was the main reason I was looking at EE as a major. I haven’t touched the stuff in a while so I might have to go back to it eventually and blow off all the dust. I also used to collect cutlery (not the kitchen stuff) but it was stolen from the aforementioned burglaries. :cuss:

When I read back over what I wrote, I sound like a cranky old man :uhoh:

Late to the game, that's me.

40 y/o, project engineer that used to work in consulting until someone flew a couple of planes into my company's building, gorram it! I've been working as an operations analyst for the last couple of years. Beats unemployment though. (though if anyone needs an all around geek on a full time basis anywhere in Delaware, let me know)

I've lived in my own starter home for the last 5 years. Coincidentally I've had a fantastic woman in my life since that time too. Plus 3 dogs and 2 cats. We support 1 car, but it seems to meet our needs.

I've been away from guns for ten years. Recently my "father-in-law" giften me with a couple of shotguns and a pistol. The gun fund is supplied by my expense check and whatever money I make fixing people's PCs. Since I've been trading computer work for veterinary care and dogsitting it's been slow going, but I'll be picking up something this month.

Life is good.

I am retired, formerly with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. During the Vietnam era, I was in USAF secret operations, the science side (WMD), not the operative side. During my service, I wound up on the Base small bore rifle team ... ended up buying my first rifle (Ruger M77) and hand gun (Ruger Super Single Six convertable). I kept it that way til a couple of years ago, when I received a WWII Walther P38 from my dad. I enjoyed shooting that at the range, and bought a S&W 686. Now I'm adicted. Since I'm single, I can buy what I wish, without consulting anyone else. I have a few more hand guns in mind. I don't even sleep with a gun by my bed, just go to the range and try to impove my shooting skills. It's a pastime I enjoy.

Guns are the only thing I spend alot of money on. I save about $200 from each paycheck and wait until I have twice as much money as I need for a certain gun then I will buy it. It is a slow process but I realize I am much luckier than others who have money/family troubles so I don't complain.

I'm a 22 y/o graduate student working on his Masters degree in mechanical engineering. Currently my time is split between research (I'm studying ways of protecting vehicles from mine blasts), volunteer work at a summer teen theater group, and a wonderful girl who just entered my life and turned it upside-down. Right now I have a Yugo SKS, a tweaked out MilSpec 1911, and a Ruger Mark III 22/45 plinker. Unfortunately ammo is expensive and I don't have as much time as I'd like, but I still manage to spend a few hours each week shoving lead down the range. The 22/45 has made that much less expensive, which means more shooting time.

Looking at getting a shotgun as my next purchase for home defense, either an 870P, a Mossy 590, or a Saiga 12.

Politically I'm a libertarian, although not a Libertarian. I think the government's job is to keep us safe from things we can't defend from ourselves, and that civil rights are more important than a false sense of security. I recently returned to Christianity as a result of the influence of my girlfriend, and I'm still struggling with my developing walk with God.

I'm just this guy, you know?

28 years old, 1 girlfriend, 1 kitten. Attorney-at-law in Geneva (Switzerland). Bought most of my guns whith money earned during 2 year service in the Swiss Army as aid instructor.
Still buy some now but whith the taxes, rent, insurances and savings for a house etc, I have to be more careful ...

many guns but the wife and kid are trying to put an end to that by spending all my money!

34-year-old technical writer. My ability to "buy lots of guns" is currently seriously hampered by medical bills...my 6 y.o. son has had two open-heart surgeries, seven angioplasties, and a Ladd procedure, plus we shell out ~$300/month for Pediasure (liquid-only diet).

Most of the guns I own, I bought several years ago. The most recent one I bought was in 2003 (my SAR-1).

43, male (obviously, with my name), married and a son 18.

I mangae business development for a large automotive supplier. Motorcycles, golf and travel keep me from spending too much on guns but I do enjoy range shooting, occasionally CCW. Let's just say I have a safefull and leave it at that.
