In another thread I was asking about lever guns. I wanted a stainless .44 mag 16" gun. No one makes sucha thing. Davidson had a limited edition that was exactly that but they are all gon 9there was only 351, I think) and they were hideously expensive.

Marlin does have a regular offerring, the 1894SS that is a .44 mag SS 20" gun with full length tube. So, I got to thinking, why not just buy one of the regular 1894SS guns and have the barrell and mag tube cut down.

This could end up being as expensive as the limited edition, but at least wit would not be an issue of availability of the base gun.

I would also like to have the gun modified to reliably function with Garretts hammerhead ammo if possible.

How did Ken manage to get himself banned from the site. I know him personally (we get along good) so I am kind of curious. Hey, it is my thread, I can hijack it if I want!! ;-)!!

I am looking for other alternatives to Wild West, only for beudgetary concerns.

I'd take it to a gunsmith that knows the gun. If I was in Alaska, WWG would be the place to go. I know they aren't cheap, but I doubt you'd find someone with more knowledge about this type of thing.

Brockman's does good work...

Put Brockman and leverguns into your search..I can't find my link.

Is 18" close enough? I noticed there is a model 92 Puma in 44. Looking again I see is is blued though. One of these days I really need to pick up a lever action. I frequently browse the makers web sites, but always end up buying some semi-auto this or that.

What you are thinking of doing is not rocket science. Heck, I did a few 30-30's myself and the results were fine. Any general gunsmith should be able to handle this to your satisfaction......Essex

It has baffled me for years, why Marlin won't market a 16" barrel version of their .44 levergun. (And the old ported model doesn't count... for me, anyway...)

I even asked management a few years ago to please produce one and yet... none...

Nobody listens to me...
