Hi guys,

Well I want to give my 4" 686 a shot in my CCW rotation and just wondering for those of you that carry one (or a GP100), how do you do it? OWB, IWB? Which holster would you recommend with a budget of $65?

I'm in AZ so going OWB with a unbuttoned and untucked cover shirt is how I usually carry and conceal my G17 and G30... I do not open carry, but do not care if I print or accidentally expose.

Thanks :D

I carry a 5" GP100 concealed pretty frequently. I use a Simply Rugged pancake holster. It does an amazing job with both concealibility and comfort. I use it both IWB and OWB depending on my clothes and where I'm going.

With shipping and the extra $10 or so for the IWB straps I think it was a bit more than $65, but totally worth it.

Thanks for the info - I've heard a lot of people praise SR rather highly - might be my time to check them out...

4 inch Mod.19 in a SR pancake holster. I've had 3 pancakes and I have a 'Cuda for the S&W Mod. 910. Best holsters going IMO. Oh, and if you have a tough time keeping your pants up, Perry suspenders that hook under your gunbelt.

I used to carry a 4" 686 years ago in a Galco vertical shoulder rig or a Paddle depending on the day.

Check with Safariland. They have several models available, including the 567. Dillon Precision has them on their website. It fits the GP100.

Otherwise, Milt Sparks.

I have a 4" GP100. I have conceal carried it using a Milt Sparks Versa Max II. (had to wait 5 months and pay a lot of money to get that holster!)

I have only done so a couple of times. It really doesn't conceal that well as soon as you start trying to bend over, learn forward, pick something up, etc. Standing or walking around it concealed just fine.

I also have a Simply Rugged Tribute, which is an OWB holster. It will conceal in that in cooler weather if I wear a hoodie or a jacket or good vest.

I have a 4" Model 13 which is a K frame. I have a Side Guard Hammar on order. I am expecting it any day. I am excited about trying it out. I shoot my k frame well and look forward to carrying it.

Here`s a custom fletch I have for my 4"GP ,I wear it inside the belt ,but outside the pants .

The belt pulls it in tight ,it has the full sized grips on it in the pic & for lighter shirts such as Tee/polo I trade em for the compacts .

My GP 100 rides very comfortably in Rob Leahy's Simply Rugged OWB pancake leather; couldn't be happier.

In the past, I carried N-frames, a bit larger than the weapons under discussion, and more recently GP100, in rigs that are now discontinued. I favor the Milt Sparks PMK and 200AW for the similar-sized, but slightly lighter Ruger Speed Six and S&W Model 19. The 200AW has the quite notable small, erect flap of leather that keep the hammer and rear sight from eating one's cover garment, but the PMK is notably more concealable, as it hugs the body a bit more closely.

Simply Rugged has a good reputation among men I know and respect, and has shorter delivery times than Milt Sparks.

I should note that I am very pleased with Bob Mernickle's holsters for some of my SA sixguns. He makes similar rigs for DA.

I just realized that one of my old N-frame holsters is still in production, or at least still available from dealers, the Galco Dual-Position Phoenix. This has a thumb-break snap retention system.
