their daily carry load? For the first couple of years, I was generally loaded for bear, carrying my Witness Compact 10mm nearly all the time, along with several other items on my belt:

But as time went on, I found it more and more of a burden to carry so many bulky items on my belt. There'd be days when the load just felt too heavy and, while I always had the pistol, I often left the spare mag, light and multiplier at home, and simply let the belt loop hang on my pants with my shirt untucked, especially if the weather was too warm for a jacket. Even then, the 2-1/2 pound Witness gets heavy and is relatively large for concealment under a light T-shirt.

As time has gone on, I found that if I kept the items more diminutive, I was more likely to carry all of them. Below is what I carry most days anymore, though the PF-9 is sometimes replaced by my P3AT or, less frequently, my S&W CS45. Though not in the picture, I always have my keys, to which is attached a Sabretool M4 micro-plier

I still carry the heavier load at times, but usually only when the weather is cool enough that I'll be wearing a jacket or coat all day. And here in CO, there aren't all that many such days, and I tired of having to wear unnecessarily heavy clothing to conceal all my gear.

Just curious how many others have made this gradual transition over their first few years of carry.

Oh, as an aside, the little flashlight in the bottom photo is a Streamlight microstream. Absolutely fantastic little lights. They'll run better than 2 hours on a single AAA battery and are quite bright. I also use one at work (I'm a mechanic), and it has survived longer than any other flashlight I've owned in that environment. 2 years now, being dropped on average probably more than once daily, subjected to all sorts of chemicals (even the rubber over the momentary/on switch is still in-tact). I just love them. They're bright enough to illuminate a large room effectively, yet small enough to hold in one's mouth when both hands are required (something very beneficial in my line of work).

The best part? They're only $20.

I dumped the spare mag years ago when I realized that the odds of me needing it were something less than be being struck by lighting while scuba diving. I kept the multi-tool in favor over the folder because it is more useful for a variety of tasks. Seems that a week doesn't go by that I don't whip it out four or five times for something at a minimum.

Since you are a mechanic you probably have access to better tools all day long and don't have that issue.

+1 on the multi-tool, Leatherman specifically as my choice.

However, I'm headed in the opposite direction, I've been gearing upwards. I bought a G2 light just yesterday to carry because I'm constantly having to ask one of my salesmen to borrow his Maglite.

I've got the room and desire, so I'm going to put together a setup similar to this guys post including a backup bug, ear plugs, etc. I'll have a few more 'tools' than he does when all is said and done. My daily activity/carry style/occupation gives me the ability to carry quite a load. If that ever changes, it's easier and costs nothing to downsize.

Well Shung prepare for a rising crime rate.

It will likely be gradual but persistent. A lot will depend upon your government's attitude towards criminals (progressive is very bad). Likely with the abandonment of the militia system the next full scale European War will sweep Switzerland from the face of the Earth. (unless you think that mankind is done fighting wars...)

Wait, what happened?

No more military service for you guys in Switzerland?

Does that mean no more SIG 550s in everyone's homes?

What's going on?

Gentlemen, the topic on hand is downsizing one's carried gear. Please stay on topic and refrain from the social commentary. If you wish to discuss such things, head over to APS.

Since 1999 you cannot carry (concelead or open) in Switzerland anymore (unless you are very rich or very threathened). So you are downsized, not by choice.

(the crime rate is increasing a lot in my town.. rapes, murders.. but all the leftiest think about is banning guns for honest people.. go figure..

We still have a militia, and still own our SG550... But it doesnt mean you can carry it all day long..)

sorry for the OT

If I could still carry, I think a Glock19 would be just fine.. 15 rounds and no extra mag needed.

Used to carry my Sig P226 .40, 2 spare mags, and my endura. Now it's a Glock 19, 1 spare mag, and the same endura. Downsized just a little.

Sorry for the birdwalk.

Anyway, the only time my carry is ever really adjusted is in hot weather.

Cool weather, I carry a P226 .40, 1 or 2 mags, Surefire, Kershaw Blur, and a Leatherman Juice2. Sometimes a J-Frame .38SPL as a BUG, just because I can get away with it.

Hot weather, I'll be in shorts, a Tommy Bahama shirt, still have the SIG and mag, but only carry the Kershaw.

Here's my old one. I downsized to the Surefire Executive from this Aviator. Half the length (just 1 battery) but haven't taken any more photos.

Actually, I upsized.

Used to carry a glock 27 almost exclusively when I was off-duty. Now I carry my Glock 37 duty rig instead. I don't accesorize off-duty, and limit myself to one magazine most of the time.

But, I've come to realize that I have far more practice time with my duty weapon, and I shoot better with it (full-frame vs sub-compact, and many more opportunities to train with it). In today's world of "active shooters", I want to have a decisive edge if the fight should ever find me during my day-to-day activities!

i don't feel that i have much room to downsize from my SP101. i sometimes carry a speed strip, but usually not. my pockets are already spoken for. i have a kershaw leek, leatherman charge XTi, cell phone, wallet, pen, and keys at all times. keys are clipped to a belt loop 'cause i hate my pockets being over-filled.

i often wish i could upsize, but the 1911 i'd like to carry just doesn't conceal as well and isn't as comfortable. so it mostly serves as a nightstand gun. i'd much rather fire a .45 at night indoors than a .357 magnum (though the wife has exactly that on her side...she's a revolver kinda girl).

For me it's just a J-Frame in the pocket, a cell phone, a ball point pen and a small pocket knife most of the time. When I can wear a cover garment I will carry my Ruger P345 or Smith 686. I don't carry spare mags or lights or anything like that. Of course I keep quite a bit of stuff in my truck.

Previously it was either a full-sized 8+1 .45 or a J-frame .38 so I compromised more than downsized to a compact 9mm. The Kershaw Leek hasn't changed.

I started with a full size P226 .40 and two extra mags. "I'm a manly man", I thought... I would never be bothered by the weight.

Then I got my hands on a P228. Much lighter.

Then I got my hands on a G19. Lighter still, better capacity, super durable finish, trigger is great for a carry gun... I've been with the G19 for a while and it is my perfect gun for now... I don't intend to change any time soon.

I carry one extra mag, along with all the usual wallet, keys, phone... maybe a knife depending on what I'm going to be doing that day. Personally I have no need for a flashlight.

Just wear a carpenter apron to carry all your guns, ammo, knives and what-have-you on your person throughout the day.

You might look a bit silly in an office-type setting, though:eek: -- unless you pretend to be the carpenter/fix-it man!

I am thinking of a down size, from one of the (3) 45 acp semi's i carry now to a wheel gun of some sort. I am getting the idea i want to keep my brass mine.

Some problems are I am not familar with new wheel guns, I hunt and tend to by longer than concealable guns, and wheel guns are seemingly wider, and harder to hide under anything I can wear..

I am a x foreign car tech long hair country boy and don't wear jackets much.

That light MachIVshooter has must be a good one as I well understand his needs and I have one hell of a dead flashlite collection my self. No one can tear up a pen light like a mechanic can.
