Who got you interested in shooting?

All I really remember was getting one of those lever action bb rifles at 6 years old.

My friend took me out to a 'guys only' camp one time at age 29. He had a 22 rifle, 357/38 Taurus, a Japanese rifle and a 12ga. Pretty good all-round representation, even if the 22 did jam constantly. I particularly enjoyed the 38's.

At 32, the local murderers got me into actual ownership.:scrutiny: Nothing like seeing a dead person draped in a white sheet on the sidewalk in broad daylight for 5 hours.

Well, my father & grandfather own plenty of guns, but we never really went shooting? i shot bb guns & .22s, shotguns & black powder in scouts, but never got into guns until a friend of mine started talking to me about hunting & ccw. Then I started getting into it. I got my ccw bought my first handgun & never looked back. I have a modest collection of guns & am building it as I can. My kids have been introduced to guns. My 8 yr old son has 2 already (Red Rider bb gun & a .410 single shot). My 5 yr old daughter enjoys shooting a youth .22 that my Dad has. Since I got into guns my Dad has started shooting a lot more & has been a way for the 2 of us to build our relationship. It has been great.

Realised I was going to have to take the threat of my government taking away my rights seriously.

I'm going to have to go with the A-Team. I grew up in a family of moderate Democrats. I was the only one with any interest in firearms. The other kids in the neighborhood wanted to be astronauts or firemen when they grew up, I wanted to be "a sniper". Kind of surprised they weren't more concerned over that. My parents finally gave in when I was 9 or 10 and got me a BB gun (Red Ryder) for christmas. Was in to air rifles up until I was old enough to start my firearm collection. I envy you guys that had a father that was able to teach you to shoot, go to the range with you, etc.

My Father....some of my best memories are skeet shooting w/ my father. We took some years off(just plinking now and then.)But when I got into handguns and IDPA,we started shooting together again.I shoot alot more than he does now(he's more into motorcycles)but we do IDPA together.
Growing up I wasn't a jock(my Father always was)so I think on some level,we didn't connect as we would've if I was an athelete.But now I shoot better than he does(much to his shagrin)....I finally found a sport I'm good at:D

Family tradition

Grandfather kept a loaded 12 ga behind the kitchen door for 40 years (yes, with children in the house, and never had any problems) Kids were raised to understand. Father hunted deer, us kids hunted squirrels, rabbits, woodchuck, pigeon, pheasant, quail, etc., pretty much everything that was either good to eat or a pest.

Mom was as good a shot as anybody we knew, and destroyed her share of vermin with a .22 rifle.

Dad also taught NRA Hunter Safety Courses, and his friends came to our place to sight in before deer season. So I guess you could say I grew up with guns.

One day when I was around 5 or 6, the old man loaded a H&R 410, handed it to me and said, Stick that agin your shoulder an touch er off. BOOM, OUCH!! Hooked for life.:D

Minh Le and Jess Cliffe.

Sad to say I guess, but true. The exposure I had to firearms as a child was for hunting and occasional plinking; no one in the family was interested in range/target shooting and definitely not self-defense. I had lost interest in firearms (~1989) in college and didn't start paying attention again until I started playing Counter-Strike Source. That would have been right at the end of 2004.

My dad. He was in the Army. I remember being 11 or 12 and he took me to a range to shoot a .22. The smell of gun oil and powder brings me back... Can you tell i miss my dad? He passed away 12 years ago. I think many of us have emotional ties to shooting.

A Marine

My brother-in-law was the one that fueled my thirst for all things that go bang. I already had a curiosity and fascination with guns due to my father's (now mine) Colt Pocket .32 auto, and my buddy's Sheridan pellet rifle that we had a blast with inside his garage. When I was about 11, I went with my brother-in-law shooting and shot his Mossberg semi-auto .22LR. I was then hooked and my parents got me my first real gun for my 12th birthday, a Steven's bolt .22. I later bought a Sheridan 5mm that I loved so much as a kid. After I shot my first pistol, a Ruger RST-4, I decided I liked pistols more than rifles, again thanks to my brother-in-law. My first pistol was a Ruger RST-6, naturally.

The men in my life on both sides of my family. My father and Uncle were into building muzzle loaders, hunting and target shooting(clays, paper etc..). Both of my Grandfathers took me target shooting since I can remember. I am 47 now and although my daughter is a good shot she shows little interest in recreational shooting anymore. I dont have any nieces or nephews that are geographically close. So it looks like I am the end of the line unless one of our daughters(combined marriage now) gets busy and gives me a grandson.:what: :D

Growing up with TV in the 50’s, also going chuck hunting with my Uncle Al when I was about 10. Then Dad purchased his first shotgun and bought me a J.C. Higgins .22 for Christmas when I was 12.

My dad. He was in the Marine Corps so guns around the house seemed natural. He used to shoot rifles - .22s, 30-06, 30-30, from the back yard patio. I recall my brother and I, 9 and 10 years old, shooting in the back yard without any supervision. :what: Don't remember cleaning them though. Relocated to the 'burbs when I was 11 and so except for occasional shoots during camping trips I didn't shoot much again till I was finished with school but the seed had been planted.

My father has always been a big gun enthusiast and started to get me into firearms since I was the wee age of 3 :what: when we have a home video of him teaching me the rules for handling a firearm. My Grandfather was the first person to take me shooting with the .22 at age 10 and gave me my first shotgun when I was 16. I didn't really get into firearms until I was about 18 and wish I had put some of that summer working and after school working money into some more guns instead of spending it on all that worthless stuff :banghead: .
