Who has experience with the .357 Sig caliber?

Just wondering what your experiences and opinions of the .357 Sig caliber are. I have just begun to experiment with one and so far, it seems to be really good. Extremely accurate, some extra muzzle blast and muzzle flip but what little I have shot it has shown it to have devistating results on target.

Any results of self defense use available? Anyone hunted with one? Thanks.

I was one of the early adopters, and I like it. It his been my experince that it has more push than a .40 but less flip. Also if you reload take care about bullet set back.

I too am a recent 357SIG convert. I got my first pistol in this caliber in January; the sig pro 2340. Great shooting pistol. I've only fired Speer Lawman and GoldDots, Federal A Eagle and WinClean through it. All have been flawless. THe muzzle blast is pretty awesome, especially from a near-compact pistol. Steel plates fall very very very fast compared to 45 or 9mm. In fact today, I was able to knock down a few plates so violently they rebounded back up into place!

I've shot a few 357 pistols and have learned to really like the round. But a few years ago, I decided to down-size the calibers in my collection and as a result, I give the adoption of a new caliber ALOT of thought. I never picked up a 357sig pistol, but I do rent one every now & then or enjoy the fact that a couple of shooting buddies have them & I get a chance to shoot them every once & a while.

I like the idea of the 357SIG, but not of the fatter cartridge and lower capacity (per grip size). I wish the 9X23 had caught on more. At any rate, I'm of the opinion that 9X19 in NATO or +P+ will do the job just as well in a smaller package.

I really like the cartridge. It does have a bit of muzzle blast and flash but overall is a lot of fun to shoot.
Reloading brings the cost and flash down, but you really have to be careful with the OAL and have a strong crimp to prevent set back.
I have or had three pistols chambered for the cartridge, a Sig P239, Sig P229, and a Glock 32. Of the three I find the Glock the best at taming the felt recoil, and the Sig P229 gives the best groups. The Sig 239 was OK, but required swapping out the grips to Hogue MonoGrips to improve the gun's handling.

My two cents:

In the right package, the .357sig is a grrrrrrreat round.

In the wrong package, it's just another round.

What I mean by that is that I have a Sig p-226 in .357sig and it's a great weapon. The recoil is minimal, the blast effects are not significant, and the gun is waaaaaay more accurate than I am. I really love that combination.

I bought a .357sig barrel for my HK UPS40c and shooting the .357sig in that polymer bodied frame and short barrel is just not very much fun. The muzzle blast looks like the Space Shuttle on take off, the recoil has a torque affect on my wrists, and follow up shots take longer to bring back on target.

I love the round in a full size gun, not too fond of it in a compact.

I had a Glock 35 with a 6" KKM .357 Sig barrel. Recoil was about the same as .40 S&W, bit louder and sharper maybe. Really, really accurate. I dumped it for 10mm, though... more powerful and versatle caliber.

I like it alot. I started as a big 40sw fan. One day about 7 years ago I was at the range and a friend let me shoot his identical sig 229 in 357 sig. The accuracy was much better and the chrono showed some nice velocities. The 357 sig offers 357 mag type performance in a 9mm sized weapon. Its more accurate than its 40sw brother in all of the guns I have tried. It fits in smaller guns than the 45 acp and 10mm. It has more power than the 9mm.

Got a Steyr M357. In fact was at the range today. Shot a 100 Winchester White Box and then about 30 Remington High Velocity HP. Makes me want to go hiddy ho after every shot. I would hate to be on the receiving end of those babies. They are hauling butt.

I've been carrying a P229 in .357sig for a year and a half. I shoot it a lot. Never had any f-t-f, no problems of any kind. I suppose that the Remington Golden Sabres are probably the worst muzzle flash/blast I've run through it, but it sure seems to anchor stuff downrange with authority. Sometimes I shoot on an indoor range. Invariably, folks want to find out what blowtorch I've brought with me.

Recoil is subjective. My P229 doesn't have a significantly different 'feel' to it from my BHP in 9mm as far as muzzle flip (which is to say it's negligible). I feel it torquing a little more than a 9mm, but then again, it's all subjective. I'm even thinking of building up a BHP from parts into a .357sig.

Yeah, I like it.

Another fan here.

I have a USP compact in 357 and love it. I also own a SigPro in 357sig. I find the USPc a joy to shoot, I think the recoil is not a problem I can out 250-300 rounds down range in a single day.

The SigPro I found hard to shoot, muzzle flip was pretty bad and so now it sits in a safe.

I was the first kid on my block to have the SIG 229 with blackened stainless slide in 357 SIG. This was '95 or '96. It was a nice pistol and accurate but reloading was not too practicable with the short necks on the cases. I already had a Super 38 which is pretty much the same thing. I sold the 357 SIG and bought a Colt Delta 10mm. I also subsequently sold the Super 38 Colt. Guess I just don't like small bores.

I started out with the H&K Compact in 40 S&W. I shot the Corbon 135 gr. bullets and they were very good. Then I bought a 357 Sig barrel and started shooting the Speer 125 gr. GDHP.. needless to say I was very impressed with the 357 Sig/Speer 125 gr. GDHP and now its my everyday carry combo.

I have a 239 in 357, bought a 40 barrel and mags for it too. The 357 is not going to overtake 9mm or 40 anytime soon. It is an expensive round, that's why I got the 40 barrel which stays in the gun most of the time.

I get about 2.5 inches from a rest at 25 yards with my Glock 31. As to the cost of the 357 sig. Its about the same cost as 40sw if you know where to shop on line. In my state its the same cost at the Anchorage Cop shops. Its also makeing a solid inroad with law enforcment on every level, Fed, State and local. Its here to stay.

Only gun I ever shot in the round was a Sig 239. Was not impressed with gun or caliber. Gremlin I think has a valid point that a compact 357 Sig ain't for most folks.

No offense to the rounds fans but I think the advancements in 9mm ammo over the years kinda made the Sig round obsolete not long after birth. Back when you needed 1350 fps for reliable expansion maybe it would have been a breakthrough. Now days I just don't see the point in putting up with more blast and recoil for the same amount of damage to the target.
