Who here is genuinely nervous when not carrying a concealed weapon

I have never worried about the legalities of carrying a concealed weapon.

The only time that I did carry was when I was stationed in Washington D.C. My wife and I used the bus alot and standing at a bus stop at night unarmed is not good.

My wife carried when we lived in Dallas, Tx. because she had to pass through a bad part of town early in the morning.

When the police can resurrect one of my loved ones from the dead because I or my wife did not carry a weapon into a bad part of town, then and only then will I abide by the law.

Not nervous at all, but then I have the right to carry if I wish.

For some time I've contemplated a vacation in the UK or Australia but will never go because in both places there is no choice.

Like plenty have said here before me, now that carrying is a habit, I just "don't feel right" if I am not in close proximity to my gun.

I live in Florida and it's legal for me to carry. I do. Going temporarily without a gun on me feels like when I might have occasion to take my seatbelt off in the car to turn around and get something from the back seat -- I'm like, "Gee, I hope 'it' doesn't happen now while I'm not protected."

Look, I'm not a helpless dude. I am physically fit and reasonably strong. I am intelligent. I am not a "fighter" but I know how to fight and I could do okay in one. But I recognize the reality that stripped of a firearm, my odds of successfully defending myself without suffering any injury drop considerably.

So, like when I was on a work-related trip to Utah, and could not bring a handgun with me, I felt kinda "naked" of it for two weeks. I had a small pocketknife with me the whole time, but that's hardly something I'd say would be a life-saver if TSHTF.

Something definitely changes when you start carrying a gun: you realize that although you may not have felt threatened or unsafe before, you WERE less safe and less well-defended all that time you did not avail yourself of a gun for defense.

I would hesitate to use the word "nervous," but I sure feel "different" when I have to go without a gun, and I do not like it one bit.

Well, the probability is that I will not need my firearm most days. The possibility may arise when I need it though. Call me a worrier but I always believe it is better to have and not need rather than need and not have.

We had a young fellow named Scott Nappi killed in a mall around here several years ago when he was carjacked. We also have the second biggest mall in the country here and you'd be surprised the sorts of low lifes who frequent the place.

I honestly do get nervous sometimes when I am not carrying. It is not a good feeling wondering if the unsavory people coming towards you want to do you harm.

Naw

I think lifes a crapshoot anyway. I wear my seatbelt but people die with em on.
I ride a motorcycle too, and I wear a fullface helmet tho LOTS of riders get hurt and even die with them on.
I carry when I do because I enjoy guns, but when the BIG guy calls my #
I don't think it would make much diff what I do.
Besides I have done too many years of combat hapkido and takwondo
to SHOOT the bg. ;)

Only if I have to go to some areas of detroit where I can't carry. Sports arenas, theaters and such. These events usually take place in the evenings and parking is not always close. An example would be the Lions new stadium. Nice stadium but the surrounding neighborhoods are a mess.

I can't f**king stand not carrying!

And i've been in korea for the last ten months!!!!

ARGH!!!! NO GUN FOR ME!

Luckily though, I'm gonna have around 6 grand saved up when I get home in May... and guess what I'm buying???

GUNS!!!!:D

As one who knows that bad things can and do happen in "good neighborhoods," I carry my weapon pretty much all the time. On the really, really rare occasion that I am not carrying, I don't get nervous, per se, but I am highly cognizant of my increased relative vulnerability. Bottom line is that I carry my weapon everywhere the law will allow, and then some. ;)

I got my California CCW about 1 1/2 years ago. There is no reason why they shouldn't renew it. If I get denied. I am carrying anyway. It is a way of life now.

"Who here is genuinely nervous when not carrying a concealed weapon"

IMO anyone who is genuinely nervous when not carrying a weapon, probably Shouldn't Be Carrying A Weapon.

What do I mean by this? Simple, if you are that nervous, you are more likely to mishandle a weapon, or think you need to use it when you really don't and are more likely to hurt yourself or worse and innocent person. Someone already pointed out that if your like this, you need professional mental help.

I grew up in NYC and never once had a problem nor feared for my life or felt nervous being in neighboorhoods that were in the "bad" part of town (and I worked in all of them!) On occasion I will admit to carrying a knife, but not cause I was nervous, just being the teen I was, thought it was cool!

And yes I realize this thread is old, but since I finaly decided to register and not just lurk, I figured I'd throw in my $0.02

There is no carrying in Wisconsin, so I guess I wouldn't know either way. I tend to carry a folder and keep my head in the game when in less than ideal areas of the city. There has been times when I have had to depend on my witts and good old getting the hell out of there to keep me safe.

Any time you have been in a situation where "good old getting-the-hell-out-of-there" is what likely saved your life, you should consider that any number of complications may have otherwise conspired to keep you from getting out of there, and backed to the wall, a firearm may have ended up then being the only way out.

I don't like getting out of a situation and realizing that I just used the last possible out to surivive it. I like to think that I used the second, third, fourth-to-last escape, and know that I had several other options.

If I have to bug out, running scared, but I have a gun on me in case I could not do so, that's a hell of a lot preferable to bugging out because I have nothing else but my bare hands or a kubotan or 3.5" folding pocket knife to defend against a clot of thugs... :uhoh:

I carry 24/7.

When I am somewhere, say Wisconsin, where I cannot carry I do feel vulnerable. It can be what we would consider the safest place around but it only takes one time to change that. In a week I am going to Cancun on vacation and I am very apprehensive about being in a foreign country and being unarmed too.

I don't think this is paranoid, just cautious. I figure I'd rather carry every day for 20 years and not need to use my gun, than not carry for one day, and need it.

Hello all, I carry every day and have been for 14 yrs. now. I've only needed my weapon 1 time in 14 years and had to use it. Since that day I feel uneasy with the thought of not having one. My life as well as my wifes was saved, although "no one" was shot there was 8 total shots fired, 1 by them....7 by me. So the ansear is "YES" I do feel nervous without my weapon.

Yes, and I have carried in the past in places like NYC, Chicago and DC. I'm not Gandhi but I can be civally disobedient when the need arises.
