How scary is open carry?

However, what do you all think about allowing the government to restrict the rights of violent felons and psychotics to bear arms? I hope I don't get flamed for saying this - but personally, I'm for it. Requiring carry licenses is one way to make that possible.

IANAL but wouldn't felons not be able to be convicted for not acquiring a permit? I would think it would violate protections against self-incrimination...

Here in Alabama OC is legal but not accepted by police. HungSquirrel already detailed some of the more recent cases. Another problem is that any 'OC Marches' or such would have to be done without firearms. One of the few places where carrying weapons is illegal is when participating in 'public gatherings' which are defined as marches and such for political reasons....

I OC while jogging in the morning and haven't had any problems. I don't have a pistol permit yet so I can't carry a pistol in my vehicle.

Lol! Yes, all the time. I was doing so in Seattle only last Saturday. There's two other open carry threads going in this forum right now.

Yes OC is legal in Washington. Check OpenCarry.org for various bulletins and the forum for OC stories. It seems like many people are carrying. IIRC the recent case where the felon carrying rifles down the street had the evidence dismissed was in Washington.
