For all those members of, ahem....MILITIAS. can you explain to me what exactly the purpose of your group is?
Yes. In fact, I started a militia group.Has anybody here ever been in what the MSM call a "militia group"?
We gather once a month and train. See this page for descriptions of past training sessions. What are they really like?
Section 312. Militia duty: exemptions
(a) The following persons are exempt from militia duty:
(1) The Vice President.
(2) The judicial and executive officers of the United States,
the several States and Territories, and Puerto Rico.
(3) Members of the armed forces, except members who are not on
active duty.
(4) Customhouse clerks.
(5) Persons employed by the United States in the transmission
of mail.
(6) Workmen employed in armories, arsenals, and naval shipyards
of the United States.
(7) Pilots on navigable waters.
(8) Mariners in the sea service of a citizen of, or a merchant
in, the United States.
(b) A person who claims exemption because of religious belief is
exempt from militia duty in a combatant capacity, if the
conscientious holding of that belief is established under such
regulations as the President may prescribe. However, such a person
is not exempt from militia duty that the President determines to be
noncombatant.
I'm not implying anything. Your group obviously is valid because it is officially recognized and sanctioned. Other, "unofficial" militias, OTOH, I still don't see what their purpose is. For example, natural disaster occurs. The Governor isn't going to call you ever, period. He'll call the boy scouts before he calls a private militia group. So, what will you do with your training? Protect society? Nope, that's the job of the NG or local/state LE. Protect your valuable property? Fine, except I would rather get my training from Thunder Ranch or Gunsite than the FOGRAPTBHSO club. Or maybe you're training for the invasion of the blue-helmeted Task Farce? Al-Queda? Godzilla? C'mon, help me out here.As for your implied disbelief in the validity of militia organizations, please remember that there is nothing invalid with private militias. Around the time of the Revolutionary War, most militias were private. That said, the MVM is not private. We operate under the orders of the Govorner of Massachusetts and the Adjutant General of the National Guard.
No everyone has the money or time to go to Thunder Ranch or Gunsite. I'd rather have some training from some old men who may not get everything right than no training at all.* Hopefully some of the old men have some experience or real training under their lengthening belts, and can pass it on.Protect your valuable property? I'm interested to see an answer to rock jock's question, from a private militia member, as well.
What do you think "well regulated" means?
